I was wondering if i buy a 3sgte motor if i could use the 5sfe tranny to keep it front wheel drive...another question...does the 3sgte have the same motor mounts as the 5sfe motor? if i could just bolt the motor in and have the 5sfe bolt up...that should solve my problems right? if not tell me what is needed for the swap.

i dont think you can use the tranny you've got unless you want to do a custom job. I've seen other people who used a FWD tranny but they had to weld it and modify it to fit, and when you start doing that you tend to get week spots. in other words... its usually breaks! i think going with an AWD tranny is the logical choice... that is if you can get your hands on one....

The chasis code on toyota's give a hint to what motors fit in a car. For example your celica is a st18X, i beleive.. the s in the front of the chasis code means it will take an S series motor.. 5S, 3S.. etc. My celica is a ZZT231.. it should take various ZZ series motors.

i see what you saying now i thought you were saying the tranny had to be welded in but you were saying the axles basically have to be custom made and snap easy right?

ya, sorry if i confused you, but yeah, basically you have to modify the axle, the tranny and maybe some other small stuff depending on which tranny and engine you have. sorry if i wasn't clear...
