Hello there, does anybody know about towing an automatic 1989 BMW, the manual says that you should add 1 extra quart of auto trans fluid if you are going to tow it for more than 30 miles, my general knowledge was that to tow an automatic car you have to take the driveshaft out,or keep the wheels off the ground (on top of a trailer) I intend to tow it fo a very long distance (cross country). The manual does not specify if that can be also done for long distance towing.
Thanks for your help Jaay!

I think that you are right, for that length the drive shaft will probably have to be taken out, to avoid any risk of harm to the transmission.

In many places, it is illegal to to a car with those dollies backwards, so the front wheels are on the ground. If your steering wheel lock breaks the front wheels will flop sideways and there will be a crash.
If you were to do this, at least tie off the steering wheel, by looping the drivers seat belt through it.
