blower motor not working

Recently the blower motor for the a/c and heat quit working. I have checked and replaced the fuse. (the fuse was not blown). I took blower motor assembly apart, used the car battery to check the fan/blower motor. It works. Can the fan motor control go bad? Is this the reason it isn't working? Do you have any suggestions to what else I can check before taking it into a garage for repairs? I do not have a trouble light to check to see if electricity is getting to the fan motor through the wiring.

The wiring must be messed up at some point. Power is probably getting to the switch, but not getting past it.

Try checking the blower/heater motor resistor. It is usually mounted in the heater plenum under the dash or in the engine compartment.

I just went through this. If you run power to the blower and it works, then replace the ballist resistor located on the right side of the firewall. (Back of Truck to front of truck). Pretty easy job, but you will need to go to the dealer to get the part.. Also the price was low as dealers go..

I agree with the resistor. It's on the passenger side firewall under the hood. You can also double check the fan / wiring etc.. by unpluging the resistor and putting a jumper wire in place, you will only have high speed on the fan though!

Same problem here long time ago. I just happend to talk to a friend and he showed me where to find the resistor. It was $7.00 to get from the dealership and was easy to replace. Blower works fine now!!

Sounds like the problem I'm having. Exactly where is the resistor and what does it look like? Thanks for the help!

I, too, have a Dodge Dakota truck in which the blower fan just "quit" one day - with no warning at all.

My son insists there are no fuses to be found. Insists on trying to take the dashboard out and put a new motor in it - BTW - he NEVER puts anything back the same way it was! And he ALWAYS has extra screws left over! :shakehead

Where is the fuse box and which one is for the heater? Is there a fuse box diagram somewhere? As you can tell, I have no driver's manual, and the service book I bought doesn't show a diagram.

Where is this relay or resistor?

I'd like to try everything else before I get into the expensive stuff!

As the notes earlier indicated - it is a resistor - you can find it on the firewall on the passenger side. There is a plug going into it and it has two screws holding it in to the firewall

Hey guys, I just found this site by googling (aint it great) Had the same problem until about a half hour ago,(after reading you guys)
All I did was clean up the contacts on the resistor on the firewall. ( Its got 5 contacts.) Works great.

Hope that helps anyone with the same problem!!!!!
