Cutting Vents In CF hood

Okay sorry if this is a repost but I couldn't seem to find anything on it in search.
Okay: I have a OEM style cf hood on my crx and I think cutting 2 little triangular vents in it with some grill mesh stuff underneath would look sweet. Anyone done this or heard of it being done? Any advice is welcome.
thanks ;)

I'll put this as nicely as possible friend:
If you have nothing pertinant to say to my question shut up.
And I don't think someone asking how to hook up neons to a fuse in their civic should be commenting on my sig pics ;)
Kicker: why would it not be a good idea? If you paid a shop to do it with a sharp enough saw so as not to fray the edges..and put something over the edges so they weren't rough. I've seen a guy around here who did it- looked pretty cool

I've seen it once in a parking lot.. I don't actually know him, or if he even lives around my area.
Well the general consensis seems bad idea- & It's not like I'm just gonna go saw happy on my hood. I was hoping somebody who'de attempted something like this would respond..OH WELL:shakehead

to me their models, but good burn ill give you credit for that.
hey dirty, i was only joking, don't take it personally, but if you have a dremel you could use that. i know buddy that did it to his own, and it looks pretty good.

1st of all its probalbly not real carbon fiber. 2nd cutting into anythign affects teh way its suported. go ahead and cut into it if its something small but if u want to cut out 2 holes like evo style or w/e they call it it ill flex alot more than it was made to

snowman: it is real carbon fiber, but I didn't think about it flexing. Guess it just really isn't the best idea.

I shouldnt be talking a I build models in auto art too, next time dont be too harsh. Also a dremel is gonna be pretty hard and the hood might warp.

I'm new here, bear with me if this post is odd. You can modify your CF hood no sweat, if you're a little careful. Cutting it is straightforward, just use a Dremel with any tip that works for you. If you have finished paint on top, it might chip out a little, just touch it up. What you will want to be able to do is to reinforce the places you cut, it it turns out to be necessary. Might not. If it does, all you need is epoxy resin and hardener and some carbon fiber cloth. Lay it up on the underside and you're good to go. You can touch up the cut edge with resin, get thick body stuff to make it easier, sand and paint. If you want to help keep it strong, bond stainless wire screen across the opening from underneath. If you use large gauge wire, like on a Jag grille, you won't lose any strength, prolly look good, too. Paint it if you don't like the shine.
I hadn't done any fiberglass work in 20 years, and found out that materials are easier to find and cheaper than ever. CF cloth is under $20 per yard, resin cheap too. Boat supply and surfboard makers sell what you need, just Google. You can even get Kevlar/CF blends in colors.
I jumped back into this work because I needed to fix some fender liners for my BMW. The factory parts are cheap thin plastic that break in a year or 2. I took them out and cleaned them, then laid up CF over them. Bit of a hassle, but it worked and they're bulletproof now. Not pretty like factory dash pieces, but not butt ugly either. Anyway, knowing the little bit I now know, I wouldn't hesitate to modify CF parts. It's a no-brainer, and you could easily fix any screw-ups. You could even undo the holes if you didn't like them.
thanks ;)[/A friend will help you move. A good friend will help you move a body.]

wait so to smooth the sharp cut edges you have to use resin, or could you just file/sand it?

You'll have problems getting rid of the fiber threads by sanding- they'll still show and be fuzzy. A little thick resin or body putty will clean it up. Body putty is just polyester resin and clay. I like epoxy resin for greater strength and flexibility.

what about a stock hood (which i assume is sheet metal?)
