98 Golf will not start

Hello all, I have a 98 Glof 2.0L automatic, 70K miles and it will not start (after my wife drove it earlier today). When the key is turned to the start position - nothing. After reading previous postings I checked: battery = good (checked it and tried to jump), fuses = good, alarm seems to be functioning ok. Also checked the "trigger" wire (red/blk) at the stater and it's getting 12.5vdc when key is in start position. Conclusion = bad starter, however my experience with bad starters is usually if you tap on them, they'll work but no can do. Just wanted a sanity check on the conclusion. Is there anything else I should be checking? Please help. Thanks.

Confirmed. Replaced starter and everyone is happy again.
