Okay, I have a very knowledgeable friend, and he is usually pretty right on with things. But when i suggested this engine build up to him, he said it would put aut about 225hp and 300 lb ft of torque. I think that is a little low, so if you would be so kind as to give me your estimates I would greatly appreciate it.
PS This guy however, gains 15hp from a cold air intake on his vortech power '97 gmc (bullshit my friend)
4 bolt 350 block, standard bore
pink rods, reg 5.7
10.1 pistons
Fuelie/Camel Hump/double hump heads
Crane cam .510/.510 about250 duration (i think)
Air gap intake
Holley 650 carb
headers, pretty open exhaust
MSD Ignition, decent distributor
What do you guys think it will turn out?
thanks a lot
Jake

You really need the valve sizes for the heads. do you have casting numbers for which double hump heads you are using? what is the LSA of the car, what is the Itake ceterline? what are the durations at .050"? I will load all this into my desktop Dyno if I have the right info.

He said standard 350, so 4"/3.48 stroke

Okay, I loaded this into my Desktop Dyno with the little info given to me. here is what I inserted:
350 block, 4" bore, 3.48" stroke.
Low Performance Heads with stock ports/valves (Camel humps are pretty much Low Perf on DD)
1.94" Intake/1.50 Exhauat valves
10:1 CR
650 cfm
Dual plane manifold
Small Tube Headers/open exhaust
Hyd lifter cam(specs @0.050") .510 lift, 254/256 dur, 116.5 Lobe centerline, 22 degrees overlap
With these Generic settings I came up with a peak of 313hp at 5500 rpms and 324ft-lbs at 4500 rpms.

in Desktop Dyno my Engine has me peaking 497hp @6000 RPM's and 481ft-lbs @4500 RPM's. Since my at the wheels numbers are 411hp @6000 RPM's and 418 ft-lbs @ 4500RPM's that means I have a 17.3% Driveline loss up top and a 15% loss down at the lower RPM's. Since I have exact FLow numbers on my heads and exact specs on my cam, the DD should be near perfect accuracy.

Whow you guys work well. thanks a lot for the help. I just got a copy of desk top dyno myself, i'm looking forward to getting started with it.

yeah its a good tool for getting a ballpark figure of what you will be running with various parts. if you have all the data DD is generally accurate to within 10-15 HP...
