want power?
APR, though expensive
or Revo and GIAC
GIAC has the most experience
APR has more hp and Revo has more torque, a few HP doesn't make too much of a difference but Revo has plenty more torque, which can really be felt, that's how I see it
I too went with Revo, go 3BAR first, 4BAR is not all too needed unless you have more mods, and make sure to get the 4BAR FPR if you are going 4BAR
want quality and reliability?
Neuspeed, don't know much about it, x-chip or something I guess, but it has only a decent amount of gain, nowhere as much as power gain as the ones above, but Neuspeed stuff are known to NOT push the limits but have high quality, price is in the mid. range, not too expensive, not the cheapest
want cheap ****?
Upsolute, it's by far the cheapest, like 200-300$ cheaper than those "power" chips
though you get what you pay for, I think at least 50% of Upsolute owners complain about it's performace, it sure is bang for buck, nice power gain, but it's surging problem is so horrible many Up. users regret their purchase
but some people have luck with replacing their N75, mainly getting the "J" version, and others use the overboost kit
still, like I said, you get what you pay for
dig?

Sorry about the double post...but i like the to have more TORQUE other than gettin a lil more HP...thanks
Is this right? is this the chip ur talkin about or one of them i like the price of this!
And also do u take out the chip from your car and send it in to them to program it or do they jus send a whole new chip and all the connectors?

what I said refer to 1.8Ts, but I would assume the same goes for old VR6s too
haha, what Japanese car were you driving?
yes, Revo does give you more torque, it's a great choice
but if you are into GIAC, I am not sure, all I know is that they have 10 years of experience, but I don't know much about them
and Neuspeed, seriously, although it has great quality, it sucks, lack of power
GIAC I think you send them the ECU, maybe
but Revo, all you do is go into the store, tell them you want chip, one guy comes out with a laptop, sit on the driver's it and plug it into your car, do a little programming, wait 5 minutes, you go in and pay, done
simple

not an expert on VR6, but I'll help you search a lil'
seeing as how it has 150k, you shoud rebuild the engine a bit first, otherwise it'll break down before you even install anything
all you need to know for Revo
http://www.revotechnik.com/revo/revo/
you can also find locations and all

found out that APR doesn't make chip for your car
neither does REVO
=[
you are down to GIAC, Neu. and Up.
go with GIAC, it's the best of the bunch
found a guy's review of the GHL exhaust for the 12v VR6:
"""i've had my exhaust installed together with a GIAC Chip. The throttle response improved a lot and the car pulls much harder in the middle and higher rpm's range. my shiftpoints changed as well. before the exhaust/chip if i redlined in second i'd get to about 60mph, now it's close to 70mph. the chip moved the redline from 6,400 to 7,200 rpm's. the sound is simply amazing. after almost 2 weeks of driving around i still turn my radio off and listen to that un-corked vr6 engine whenever i can. i get thumbs up and look-arounds from people everywhere. whenever i fire up the car for my buddies, all i get is big grins on everybody's face. the system has zero droning inside but beware, this is not miltek, you can actually hear the exhaust inside. is it obnoxiously loud? absolutely not, its nothing but music to my ears, i would certainly asked the guys at GHL Motorsports for an extra resonator if i thought it was too loud. this system gets 2 biggest thumbs up from me! """
it's pretty good, there's a loud and quiet version of the exhaust
neither does REVO

By the way do you know what exhausts are good for 97 GTI VR6 by the GHL guys that give me some good sound like that guys...

well
you have a N/A car, not turbo, a CAI won't do you much good, for ABOUT the only thing it's good for is the sound if you have a turbo
I say get a K&N filter instead of a CAI, it'll add a little HP
I dunno what they are called, but just go to some store and ask for the GHL exhaust for a 97 12v VR6 that has sound, and they'll give it to you, simple
welcome
you know what's bad? that this board has like NOBODY in it, that's just F'ed up

because people at vwvortex DON'T help people, they tell people to "SEARCH", and that's all
"btw can u show me by jus gettin a k&n filter...jus like the filter on the intake already or is it like cone thing..."
I don't get it
what are you saying
well the filter fits inside your airbox, and the CAI is the intake (with a cone thingie I guess) that's different from the filter
dunno if that's what you mean
ALSO
another way is to mod your airbox, shave the inside and do some mods to it
but... some people do it, most don't, you don't have to

Ok. One thing yes the Turn2 Cold Air intake does help. Give around 5-8hp depending on other mods exhaust, different type of intake mani, 2.9 throttle body, etc. I have th turn2 and yes it helps. You see the normal open air filter get hot and does nothing but put hot air into the intake. However a Cold Air Intake keeps the intake charge cool and the air thicker. You will notice the power increase at around 2800RPMS and Max out around 5000rpms it gives good low to mid upper range hp. The Turn2 CAI goes right down into the right side fender and doesn't get hot b/c the engine bay heat isnt' there to heat it up and give it the hot box effect.(ie open air filters.)
GIAC,Autotech Q chip, Techtonics, Wetteraur, and Upsolute all make chips for the VR6. The Neuspeed Pchip is the weakest one but the cheapest also. It's not a bad chip I had mine before I got my TT 264/260 cams, Schrick VGI, Autotech 10lb. flywheel, and Neuspeed ND clutch. Oh by the way I did have the Neuspeed open air filter before I got the CAI and I cut about .5 seconds off of my quarter mile.
How far do you want to take your mods on your VR6 and do you want to stay N/A or go FI ie turbo/super charger?
Best N/A set up in my opinion is Schrick 268 cams, Schrick Variable Intake Manifold, Big Valve head (GSB, EIP, Matrix, Turn2, local machine shop and Race Shop Joe.look on Vortex) That would run you around 4-5 grand and give you around 35-45whp.
If your VR6 is running well and still in good shape you should have no problems. Our engines are tough as nails.
GHL exhausts I have heard good things about.
Other possible mods Unorthodoxy Underdrive pullies, Turn2 motor mounts and tranni mounts. I hope this has been helpful.
But Yes the Turn2 CAI does make decent hp and tq and better than an open air fiter and a modded air box.
If you want to go FI there is VFengineering, C2 motorsports, and AMS for super chargers will run you around 3500-4000 and yield anywhere between 225-250whp. Side note if you are going to get a super charger don't get under drive pullies they mess up the super charger for some reason. And also get either stock cams, dsr 256 cams, or Schrick 248 SC/Turbo cams. The dsr's are proven to add about 25whp to a super charged VR6 around 4000rpms.
Now Kinetics from Canada makes a turbo kit for the VR6 for only 2200 american dollars and gives 245whp. The cheapest FI set up I've ever seen. Eurotuner covered it and after the drive of one of their kits said it was reliable and didn't have any oil pressure or engine surging like some turbos for the VR6.
Other more expensive turbos for our engines are
ATP, HPA, or EIP I do believe there are others but I forgot right now. All of those kits I mentioned will run you $4000.00-$5000.00.
The nice thing about the Kinetics is that the next stage in uprgading is only like $900 and will give you around 315-325whp. So check them out.
