Hi everybody,I need your help in figuring out the latest problem I am dealing with.I have 97 Olds Aurora with 101500 miles.I was driving it on interstate last week with full AC blower because it was 95 F.All of a sudden I smell a burned wire kind of smell and the AC stopped working. The air was still blowing but not cold.Since than, The Air Conditioning is not working.
In the past, I have learned some very good knowledge from this forum. From a complete strangter to the car, I became somewhat knowledgable person about car.I am hopping to hear from someone about this problem and may be some do-it-yourself tips. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar experience in my '96.
In my case, it turned out that the compressor clutch burnt out.
Had to replace the compressor, dryer and refill the system.
Expensive - $900 as I recall. Just like everything else on the Aurora - expensive replacement parts...

Yes, Milin. Im having the same problem, except im getting a metal grinding sound which im told is the compressor. The last time I drove the car I had the same electrical smell with a little smoke to go with it. Going to replace it at the end of next week Thur/Fri. Got a price over the phone at a local A/C repair shop thats pretty reliable and they told me $700 for the job so i've been wanting to hurry and do it just haven't had the time. Going in for sure next week though, I MISS driving my aurora. Will keep you posted.

Same here. 1990 Civic. The AC button remains iluminated, blow hot air only. Any do-it-yourself procedures to sort out/pin down the problem area(s)? thanks.

Maybe you should go to a HONDA forum???? Auroras are most certainly NOT "do-ti-yourself" type cars for the most part... :screwy:

Thanks for the reply guys,
So far, it isn't a good news for me though!
I thought if it was due to some fuse or circuit brekers, it would be easy.Looks like, I have to take it to the dealer. Thanks any way.

I owned a 97 as well. Same symptom but mine did it only a few hundred miles past the warranty. The new compressor and all was over a $1000.
