Oil pump

My oil guage has always run on about 20 psi and about 12 when idleing, but this last week it seemed to be getting a little lower and then sunday on my way to work it dropped down to 0 psi. Just as soon as I saw the check guage light pop on and seen no oil pressure I killed the engine. I don't know how many of you have ever changed out an oil pump in a 4th gen camaro, but if it comes down to it take it to a mechanic. Mine is a 95 Z28 6 speed and you have to take apart just about everything under the car and lift the engine up as high as you can get it just to get the pan out. I managed to break all but one of the exhaust manafold bolts off while pulling the y-pipe off and I finnally got the pan out just to find out Advanced auto sold me the wrong pump and no one around here has the right one so now they have to order it. anyway to make this long story a little longer I just want to make sure that this was the pump and nothing else is causeing the oil pressure to drop to 0. There was nothing Knocking or any other noise before I killed the engine and i'm still waiting on my pump to come in.

might well have been your oil pressure sensor. if you didnt hear any tapping, or noises, then your pressure might ahve been fine, but the sensor just stopped sending the voltage to the PCM. causing the check engine light to come on.
