All of the sudden the digital clock in the 2002 elantra just changed to 3 hours off. For this to happen, something had to power down, but what? Also, the buttons to reset the time won't work now either. Anybody have a clue and an idea on how to fix this?

My clock has the same problem. I can't get the adjustment buttons to work.

Must be that Y2K bug finally catching up to their pre 90's technology used in the clocks...hehe:smokin:
But seriously you may just try disconnecting your battery for a few minutes and seeing if it resets. If it doesn't your clock...which is almost entirely a circuit based on an ASIC, will likely need replacement. If by chance your out of warranty you can get one from a scrap yard online cheap.
Good Luck,
Jason

I thought about disconnecting the battery and resetting the clock, but if the buttons still don't work, then I have a blinking 00:00 instead of an hour off reading.
The car is still under warranty and has a recall that needs to be taken care of, I'll just take it in and get it all taken care of.
I was trying to remove the instrument panel cover to see the clock, but it wouldn't snap off, and I didn't want to break anything.
I removed to screws above the speedometer and two in the ashtray. Are there more?

There is a diagram of the dash panel in the Service Bulletin section of the Hyundaiusa website. I've also seen a few on DIY websites but I don't remeber the URL to the ElantraGTclub.

Now, everytime you step on the brake, the dashboard lights come on. It's very annoying. What could have gone wrong to have all this start happening? I guess I'll just take in to Hyundai for repair before the warrenty expires.

Sounds like a short. If your brake lights turn on your parking or headlights could be as simple as a shorted taillight bulb or relay. In hindsight does this issue occur in the other direction? does the second element(brake lights) come on with the normal running tailights?

I see bad bulbs do this all the time
first i would starting with the left light unplug the bulds one at a time testing to see if dash light comes on after removal i am confident you will find that after removing one of the bulbs your concern goes away , then replace that bulb
