Anybody ever stuff a double-din stereo into the newer modeled Silverado dash opening - how did it work out, how did it look, care to post any pictures, etc.

Thanks.

Dave

I am not sure what you are looking for, the factory radio is a double DIN

The factory radio is din 1.5 and not a double din unit. In order to get to the radio all you have to do is unsnap the dash trim ring and gently pull it away from the dash. I had to tilt my steering wheel all the way down and put the truck in low 1 in order for it to clear the steering wheel. Once you do that the radio is right in front of you held in place by two levers on the sides. Just depress the release button and slide it right out. Be careful not to mess up the wire harnesses attached to it.

Why YES... the "newer modeled Silverado" radio is a double din radio. However I have not seen anybody use it without cusomizing it to hold a video screen. Sorry I wasn't more help, just wanted to make sure everyone was on the right track.

THe "Newer model Silversdo" is NOT double din. It is 1.75-Din. A double-din will not fit unless you start cutting things.

I see I'm not the only one confused. Basically, if I want to put in a AM/FM/CD-MP3/CASSETTE, the only aftermarket ones out there our double din - which I think is 4" tall at the face of the unit. The trim face in the 2003 Silverado is not flat, so if you trim away to get a 4" radio in, its going to be hard to put a faceplate over it, its not gonna sit flush, and its gonna look sloppy. I was hoping someone would have been through this, and post a picture to see how it looked - guess not yet.

Have you spoken to any stereo shops in your area? Many times there are kits available to make your install look first class so I'd ask and see if they've got anything for your truck. You can also check at crutchfield and see what they recommend for your application.
