Posted a thread about my tranny shuddering, and it is in fact the tc sticking, which thank god ain't major. What fluid should be used for my trans. Its a 1995 4.6, is this AOD?? 4R??. I'm pretty sure to use MerconV, i think. BTW, you think i should let avis do a flush/fill-they replace the filter and stuff also, or let my mechanic do a COMPLETE flush-with that machine thing. I know that the complete flush replaces ALL fluid, where as the avis (cheap easy way) flush only replaces like 60%, i believe.

BTW, as of now, smells alittle burnt-cold or hot. But it is still red red, not pink or brown. Level seems just a wee bit high, cold and hot also. I've been reading tccoa.com, and other places, first it say DONT used merconV, then it says you can use it, now just mercon>>?? I know NOT to use dextron3 :-)

I use merconV. Have you replaced your 1-2 accumulator piston. Ford has a tsb on that, something about the seals failing and causing shuddering. Part cost about 20 bucks and if you change it while changing your tranny fluid/filter, takes about 10 extra minutes.

nevermind about accumulator, just realised you said you know it is the tc.

While he is in there he might as well replace the accumulators. He has to have the pan down to change the filter anyway. Solaris, go to www.tccoa.com and look in the tech articles for what parts you need for the updated accumulators. And yes, go with the mercon V.

The AOD was shipped until 93, IIRC. after that, the T-birds came with the electronic tranny.
