Why cant people respect presidents regardless of party

Why cant people respect an american president regardless of party? This would of never happened 50 years ago and anyone who was disrespectful of a president would of gotten the hell beat out of them. But its different now, people have no respect of what God has given them. This is the best country in the world and ungrateful people still have to complain. This is America and the president is the leader of it and the most powerful man in the world. Now personally, I cant stand Kerry. Hes very distrustful and does whatever popular opinion is and not what is right or wrong. Every time I see him I want to saw his chin off but, and this is a BIG but. If he wins the election this fall, I WILL RESPECT HIM BECAUSE HE WILL BE MY LEADER. I dont have to like him, But I have to respect him.
Why cant other people do that?
Why cant other people do that?

You don't HAVE to respect anyone. Just because a person holds a title doesn't mean that decides for you that your respect is due to them. I've got more respect for the mods of this board than I do Bush or Kerry. I woudn't want their job, but that doesn't mean I respect them.

People 50 years ago probably said things about the president but were just not as vocal. Mass media has made it so easy for coutless numbers of people to know exactly how you feel (thanks to free speech). Take this board for example. Its kinda like sitting on the front porch with 200,000 other people discussing things. 50 years ago, it was just your family and neighbors that you mostly talked to.

I will always respect the office of the POTUS.
When I first joined the service, GWHB was President. I would have instinctively, gave-up my life to protect who, and what he is, personal feelings non-withstanding, same as I would have done for Clinton, and if I were in the position, I would do the same for the current President.
How I feel about man, does not have anything to do with how I feel about what he represents.
As a matter of fact, it's my respect for the position he holds that makes how Bush is treating it more abhorrent for me.
Same as how appalled I was with how Clinton treated the Greatest Office in our country.

I've always been of the opinion that respect is earned not given. That does not mean that if respect hasn't been earned, the president should be disrespected.
For the most part, I don't care about other peoples opinions and I read or see a few hundred. The president has about 300 million opinions in this country alone (ok - I shouldn't count the young kids) and a billion or two outside it that have an opinion they are voicing. Its bound to run the entire spectrum and nobody in that office can get hung up on it.

Nobody (except a few wackos on both the left and the right) holds a presidents party against them, they judge the president by his actions. When he does a bad job, he's a bad president. When he does a good job, he's a good president. If you have a problem with people debating how good or how bad of a job a president has been doing, then perhaps the U.S. is just too exciting and too free of a country for you.

50 years ago the President didn't spend millions on his campaign.50 years ago,the President didn't take his nation to war unless provoked.50 years ago,no president would have DARED to screw his ex-servicemen,and would have stood down in shame if he had sent hundreds of his fellow Americans to die allegedly defending their country against non-existent weapons of mass destruction.50 years ago politics was a laudable and honorable profession, where truth and integrity were the governing yardsticks.Contemporary politicians from all of the 'developed' countries need no more than to look good on television,be able to tell enormous lies with a straight face, and have access to enough money to buy the airtime to achieve both of the above.

I have a question for you.
What country are you from, and if you arent from the USA why do you worry about us soo much?
Where I come from is irrelevant. However,my government tends to keep its foreign policy to a minimum .Successive American administrations have perverted the term 'protecting overseas interests' until it now means 'kill anyone who may be a liability'.
Sept 11th has been corrupted into an excuse to commit war crimes on a grand scale. The perpetrators have been left unpunished while George goes about his pre-WTCagenda of trying to prove something in Iraq.
The standard of candidates for the next election doesn't look very promising either.Give me one good candidate who believes that his job begins at home, and the UN should be used to its full potential as a way of dealing with issues of world importance. The US is setting itself up as the world's police without the democratic consent of the rest of us.That's just plain wrong.

Well..now we're getting to it.Racism is ugly at best of tiimes, but your comments on the French show just how ignorant you are.I've tried to explain to you in simple terms the wider concept of 'international co-operation',but it cleanly went straight over your head.
Tell me to mind my own business,by all means. Peace is my business, and George used the term repeatedly in his latest campaign speech.Trouble is, he has absolutely no clue what the term means.Such a shame that Timothy McVeigh was executed. He is of the same calibre as Bush. They both blew up civilians in large numbers for being in the vicinity of an ideology that they found unacceptable.Still, when you're the President, it's not an act of terrorism, it's a peace initiative...
As for your comment on meddling...I'd use that word for what Bush is doing in the Middle East.I'm just excersising my right to free speech, your buddy is killing people.

First off taranaki, you called me a racist, LOL. racism is when you dont like somebody because of skin color, not their nationality. Second, id like you to read page 66 of the 9/11 commissions report on the connection between bin laden and hussein, and combine that with what bush and blair knew. As far as they knew, al queida could of set off a chemical bomb in san francisco while they were squabbling with the UN and bush would have been blamed for not going into iraq and taking out the threat. Bush had to act in the best interests of America. Hes the President of the United States and does whats best for us, not whats best for al quieda. If that means destroying a regime then thats what the president has to do.
P.S. i agree with carrrnuttt in the fact that it is pretty cool to get igor to speak the way he did, but im sorry if I pissed anybody off. I just get too emotional sometimes and say really retarded crap.

This is going OT, but thread is boring now anyway.
My opinion on the Mossad case is that either:
A. The passports were to be used in a country which uses the Passport Scanners at Customs. YOu swipe the passport through and it comes up with your details on the screen. The US only accepts these types. For country that doesn't use this, a fake from Asia would suffice. They're very good fakes. Sometimes they're not even fakes, either.
B. The officers (theres a differance between agents and officers) needed the passports to infiltrate the NZ government. A lot of government jobs require NZ citizenship, though I find this one hard to accept, for the security clearance forms are the biggest son of bitch to have ever walked the earth (I've filled one out. You feel almost violated after LOL).
On the side of this theory, is the fact that there isn't a huge Jewish population here. Mossad often appeals to a Jews sense of "home" and religion to get them to spy for them. It's very effective. I doubt there are many Jews in high positions in NZ.
C. To get a passport which can then be forged. Make an identical passport, just change the picture. Keep the name. Israel would then have two passports with which they can swap names happily as needed.
I find the assassination theory inplausable. If they wanted to do that, they would have other means to do it.

I hope you realise that Hussein had bigger problems with Al queda than anyone else, inlcuding the US.
He ran a secular government in a predomintly muslim nation, and killed and disappeared literaly hundreds of muslims to keep them oppressed.
(yes, by liberating Iraq the US liberated a huge Muslim population).
He was the most hated man in the islamic world.
However, he wasn't stupid, after 91 he changed his approach to islam in Iraq. When he realised how powerful a religion it was, and that it shared a common dislike of the US culture he encouraged its more fundamentalist side.
While its possible and likely he surported low scale Islamic fundementalist organisations, some of which may have been capable of terrorism, its highly unlikely he surported Al queda. They are not the sort of people who forgive a grudge in a hurry, and Hussein created one pretty big gruge.

.
It was actually in the tens of thousands.
Southern Iraq is mostly Shiite, with a large population of 'marsh' arabs who make their living in the wetlands of southern Iraq. These marshes have been systematically drained by Hussein, to eliminate their way of life, scatter the population and eliminate a perceived power base for religious opposition to the Baath party. What once was 250,000 marsh arabs has been reduced to less than 40,000.
Also, back in 1993, Hussein engaged in a brutal campaign of repression in the south, destroying Shiite towns and villages, killing thousands and rendering even more homeless.
The fires from the burning towns and villages were visible to surveillance satellites for weeks.

First off taranaki, you called me a racist, LOL. racism is when you dont like somebody because of skin color, not their nationality.
I'll take it back,you're not a racist.
You are an ignorant racist.
The Gallic people are a race,it's not about skin colour,it's about a whole raft of ethnic traits.
I'll make a generalisation based on nationality for you. Most of the Americans who post in this forum are intelligent and articulate. You are not.Have a nice day.

Maybe 50 years ago, when presidents were more accountable, and not just some camera-friendly millionaire who reads his cue-cards like the big-business lackey that this useless turd is.

Unless you're kissing corporate ass, or have friends in high places to get you millions of dollars - you have no chance of being president these days. That's the truth. You don't have to be good, just full of money.
You want proof? As of right now, I'm running for President - and I'm only going to have a budget of 0.25 cents to do so. I'm not going to win. You won't even hear of me on TV. :grinno:
I can puff out as much hot air as either Bush or Kerry can - but until I sink millions into myself like they are doing, I haven't got a chance.
