Malibu 1999 motor mounts

My Malibu has a loud metallic rubbing sound from up front that my mechanic says is a motor mount failure and that it is common for Malibus. I have never known anyone ever having a motor mount problem. Im wondering if GM has a "hidden" warranty for this expensive problem
