hey right now im a DSM guy but down the road from mty house some guys selling an old 7 and ive always thought they were cool so im wondering what i need to find out to decide weather i want it. some quetions i have are
1 which models are turbo
2 what kind of driving are they best for? i know they're rwd but im into holding turns not drifting so can they hold corners or are they better for drifting.
3 they put a junkyard engien in it and apparantly they didnt check it before in stall and its seized. they put tranny fluid in the cylinders(i know rotarys dont have cylinders but dunno what its called) i know this works on normal engines but how is it supposed to work on a rotary? wont the fluid run out the bottom or not get to all the sides of the center rotating section.
4 what kind of price am i looking at for a used engien and how hard is the installation?
5 can you tell me the real names for the engine stuff it really sucks sounding like a dumbass  i started working at a local garage and i do the work on my car but i really dont know much of anything about rotarys besides the basic floating panetary concept

The one you are looking at is a 2gen FC 86-91 .
FC have a the best or the closest 50/50 weight ratio , so It "will" hugh those corners.:grinno:
They are good drifters too . ask J-Rat he has a drift club with only RX7's.
They are not called pistons. Rotary engine has rotors Like the one on my avatar<<<
Maybe the website below will help you and learn more about the rotary engines . http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine.htm .
And what they problably put inside the engine was ATF automatic trasminsion fluid, they do this on rotary engines to build up compresion, when car hasen't been stared for a long period of time.

they said that the engine was seized. on inline 4s and v6/v8 you can put atf in the cylinders and it breaks the rings loose enought to crank the engine.
i decided im gonna stop and look at it tommarrow cuz my dad stopped before and didnt figure out much of anything. im guessing since its a 89-91 that its got a carb and not fuel injection. what are the expensive/hard to fix common problems with this year?

Same on rotary engines atf will lubricate the apex seals "pistons Rings" .
No 86-91 engine came with EFI already.
rebuilding is expensive, finding somedy that works on rotary engine is hard, comonds problems is easy to fix.

ATF might help it with the seizing, but the most common problem with a seized rotary is carbon lock, where a peice of carbon breaks free and locks the rotors in place.
And all 86-91 had EFI

where do you live? maybe someone here knows a near by rotary shop.
it has to be 88-91 like said before, if it has the round tail lights then its 89-91, if not then its 88(obviously) also if it has a black line around it then its an 88(unless the car is black then you can't tell that way) if the line is the same color as the body then its an 89-91
oh and 86-88 is an S4
89-91 is an S5.... just so you know
and that how stuff works web page is awesome, look through it like 80 billion times and you should have it down pretty good

it an 88 then. its really really riced out right now but ill make quick work of that if i buy it. if its carbon locked how do i fix that? can a moderately skilled backyard mechanic pull the engine rebuild it and put it back together? how much do the parts for a rebuild cost new and what is usually done. and im located in lancaster PA. the car is black and the body is dented up all the way around. the guy obviously thought he was a racer. he has to dual 4inch tip mufflers hanging off the back lol. theyre so heavy they rest like halfway between the bumper and the ground and stick out 8 inches out the back lol

oh btw the mufflers are daul 4 inch on each side so 4 4inch tips on a engine with under 200hp lol
oh another question is how many rotors does a 88 rx7 engine have and whats the displacment (if you can get that for a rotary)

2 rotors... I don't feel like explaining the displacement thing, its too late and I'd probably screw it up anyways :) someone else can do that
