RAM Air on 3rd Gen

I'd like to let my 89 TA breath a little colder air. I bought it with the stock air cleaner off and a chrome open element on. But its just sitting there under the hood breathing in all that hot air.

How well would it work to cut a whole into the hood, somehow raise an open element through the hood and put an air scoop over it. Would that cause too much air, at a higher rate of speed? Anyone done this?

I actually thought of doing that, but I have the fake cowl induction. It might still look cool with the scoop coming out of the cowl induction.
Yes, I do not see any problems for the engine, the colder the air the better for the engine, ya know.
(at least thats what I think) It might even run cooler, its an option, but it might be a pricey one.

I have a friend that did that, says the engine runs 60 degrees cooler. (his was an 89 ford ranger) but i know that it is effective.

whats the difference with driving it that way in the rain or one of the real ram air cars in the rain. They all have scoops that funnel the air to the air filter?

Ya know the scoops in the hood w/ an open element filter should work great. In my 79bird the heat never goes over 160. It has a new radiator a good grille, two fake ram air scoops and an open element filter and the stock fan is always on. Boy this baby runs cool and its totally opposite of my 89 bird which likes to run hot (that little bitc I-I).
Go with open filter and some scoops you will notice a lot of difference.

Good question, MuscleCrazed, how DO the stock ram air's overcome the moisture problem?

Would a little bit of moisture BE a problem?? Well from what I am seeing on my79 bird moisture is NO problem. Heck when it rained I would check under my hood to see if there is any moisture in there, and there was none. Also when it was snowing I would check the inside of the hood and there was no moisture. In denver it snows like crazy so the car was covered with snow. Never had a problem for the two years I drove it. Also to really stop the moisture make sure that the scoops somewhat cover themselves, and are not just totally open, because than there would be difference.
