My engine suddenly lost half of it's power!

I have a 1988 Mazda R-X7 GXL (non-turbo). 13B for a motor. I was driving down the road one day, and the motor suddenly lost probably half of it's power. There was not any noises when it happened. The oil pressure is still normal, and the engine temp is still normal. The car will start, if I hold the gas to the floor. However it will not run on it's own unless I am holding the gas. (Less than half throttle). And it will not rev higher thean 6 thousand rpm. If anybody can give me any good advise, it would be greatly apprieciated.

A compression test would be the first thing I would try. Sounds like you MIGHT have lost an apex seal.

check you injectors plugs. and injectors .
compresion test too .

yea your rotor probably got disconected, went down the header, and got stuck in your cat :screwy:

I performed a compression test according to the Haynes repair manual. The upper front spark plug hole had a good reading. But the upper back spark plug hole had nothing. (compression guage did not have any reading on rear upper hole). What does this mean????

yikes, typical rear rotor went bye bye. Time for a rebuild buddy. :( I've been trying to get my rebuilt engine re-rebuilt all summer. Fucker only got 900 mile before taking out a couple apexes
