ok i know you can convert a nonturbo to a turbo, but is the twin turbo the only one? cuz i want to make my 94 sl a turbo, but i only want to make about 5-10 psi.

you can do a single turbo conversion or a tt conversion. some people have simply swapped in a VR-4 engine (which I used to think was way complicated, apparently its not.) and there are kits you can buy to convert from n/a to turbo. Why do you only wanna boost 5-10psi???? are you gonna leave the n/a pistons or something?

Yeah actually . I plan to (once i get the green) make the 3.5 bore and get the upgraded pistions from 3sxpreformance. the reason for the 5-10 is that i don't want a gas hog, well worse than it already is anyway

do you know where i can get one of those kits?

save up for a vr4 the conversion for your sl is not worth it you are looking at a big headache and a empty wallet. the turbo's for the car are really expensive....

aha, if you are patient you can find parts for a tt conversion cheap and it can run you as little as 1,500, i've even heard of people doing it for about a thousand but they were cut a lot of slack because maybe they picked up parts from a junkyard or a member from 3si.org for really really cheap. If you do it yourself it will be a lot cheaper, because it can be expensive to get a shop to do it.

If you can find a vr-4 engine for cheap then more power to you, they are few and far between in my experiences though as i look on ebay right now i can find one or two.

A used turbo (single) can run from 100-500 dollars im sure depending on the condition its in and power it puts out.

the item at www.gtpro.com is a supercharger, that means it's belt driven instead of by exhaust right?

if you do a turbo conversion, you will need upgrade transmission parts (aka LSD and clutch) as well, or you can kiss your tranny goodbye.

As many TT owners as i know, it seems that VR-4s are more reliable than FWD TTs.

If u do a turbo conversion on an auto. ,is there upgrades for an auto. transmission?

Hotshot8792

yes, its imperative that you add an tranny cooler to the auto tranny, but from my experience, thats the only necesity you need

there are other upgrades for the auto tranny which include
shift kit
alto end clutch
high-stall torque converter
LSD insert

as having all of the tranny upgrades, they are definitely worth it

Hotshot8792, what your name on 3si? (You do post there right?)

I helped with a TT upgrade the weekend before the NG.

he retained the NA block/heads
He bolted on the TT ehx manifolds, turbos, downpipe, ecu, wiring harnass, fuel injectors. (and otehr small parts) 21 manhours later he was driving his TT FWD home.

If you look you can get the parts from TT guys that upgrade their fuel systems and the rest from people that part out cars. I think he spent $2000 in parts.
