My daughter owns a 1992 cavalier 2.2 liter and I replaced the plugs and wires and it still spats and sputter occasionally and fells like it whats to stall. This happens both cold and hot but more when it’s cold and also both at an idle and in park and in gear. Another thing that you need to do is feather the throttle when it’s cold or it will stall. Please help with some ideas it’s an old but good car with 138000 miles on it.

Thanks

Thanks but the guy she bought the car from said it was a new alternator and battery and it does look brand new, so I dont think thats it. I should have told everyone this car did sit for about 6 months before she bought it.

Thanks blkcavi02 !!!!

you should still have it tested they can still go bad if they are brand new i went through 5 in less than a year in my old car. if you go to a parts store they have a machine and they usually will test it for free.

An alternator would be very unusual for this problem. Check your IAC valve, they get very dirty and then cause the problem you describe. If that don't work take a look at your Throttle Position Sensor. Be sure to check the plugs for these items as well. Good Luck.

What is the IAC valve and where is it located? Things gotta be more detailed in explanation for us dummies that don't know cars ;)
