Deja Vu

What do you believe Deja Vu is? I get it a lot actually. I think that it is simply a random firing of whatever chemicals allow for recognization. Okay, lets say whenever you recognize someone, something as what it is your brain releases a certain chemical to a certain part of the brain. Like, you go to a car show and you see a Ferrari 360 Modena. You say, "Oh, I know that car, its a Ferrari 360 Modena". Or like when you go to school and you know exactly what your classroom looks like because you recognize it. Of course, these examples are linked to memory, but in certain instances lets say that your brain releases "recognization chemicals" spontaneously. You would feel that you remember that place, time, event etc. At least, thats what I think. What are you opinions on this unique phenomenon?

Your theory on Deja Vu does actually make sense. I can't possibly speculate what causes Deja Vu, other than the fact that it might have been something you, very coincidently, dreamed about while asleep and forgot about until a certain event happens that triggers the feeling. Of course if that happens, then we get into the whole argument about being able to see the future and stuff like that.

Anyways, it certainly happens to me quite a bit. When I sense it happening, I try to figure out what happens next. A lot of times, I'm right, which makes it pretty creepy.

Deja Vu happens to me almost everyday. Also I dream about something and something alsmot exactly the same happens a few days later. But since it's a dream and happens later, I dont remember if it's happened or not

I agree with that. I have them regularly too. It seems that when i do though, that something flashes through my head saying "this is the one". Strange i know, but ohh well.
In an afterschool thing we have, someone said that your whole life flashes before your eyes, and you remember bits and peices through life. Then they said something about dying but i dont remember what it was. Hmm highly unlikely but something to think about.

Fireball, you actually have it more correct that other one's I've heard

Although what 'deja vu' is, what causes it, is still a mystery to modern science, I think one of the most internationally acceptable theorys is the memory theory.

Say you get deja vu, the theory is, is that when instead of your brain putting what's happening into your memory bank, it's putting it into your recall memory bank and it's trying to bring it up as a memory, that's *theoretically* why you feel like you've "been there" before.

Make sence? Not 100%, but it's just a theory. Not mine of course! :D

Same with me. But, it's usually a new job. I dream about what I'll be doing next. It usually happens 3-6 months later. The only dream that has not happened yet. Is the one where I have a black car, a black leather trenchcoat(both of which I have). I go to a gas station to get some smokes, I get out and start towards the station. I hear someone running up behind me. I can sense they are trying to hit me from behind. I duck, they miss. But, I fall on my stomach. I then feel a shotgun pointed at me, at the back of my head( I then wake up.)

I've had one of those "Did I dream about this, or is fucked up deja vu" moments, where I could actually predict what's going to happen. It's only happened once, and I was wrong in my prediction (so yeah...) but I tried hard :D

I can't remember where or when this happened, or to what. But I do remember stoping in my tracks :D

i thought i commented on this already?

anyhow i use to think that a deja vu is when your eyes see something and your brain does not register it fast enough so you kinda end up seeing it twice

I think that sometimes deja vu comes from you knowing what will happen the next day or in a few days... you think about it and your mind thinks up exactly how it will be, then when it happens you remember that... ofcourse this wouldn't explain all things but maybe some... just a thought I had

I get Vu Jede a lot. That's the feeling that none of this has ever happened before.

I thought I was the only one that did that! I had one recently where I was talking to this guy and I remembered having the conversation about something really off topic and i remember that if i made a comment then it would lead to an argument and get really awkward so I didn't say anything. It was wierd because I could swear I had this happen in a dream a long time ago before I met that guy and I woke up going "who was that guy and why were we talkin about that"? :screwy:

Has anyone tried keeping a notebook next to your bed and recording your dreams when you wake up while its fresh in ur head? I think I'm going to try that now.

actually, once I woke up at like 2:30 in the morning and was struck with some weird inspiration for a story, and I wrote a 3 page story right there for an English assignment, off the top of my head. I won several high-school writing awards for that story. Pretty weird stuff, but hey, I'm not complaining :grinno:

The opposite happend to me.

I woke up at 2:30 in the A.M and though "Man, I'm hungry" so I ate all the chicken in the fridge, and I got in a lot of shit the next day, cause apparently that was the dog's food

it might be a sleep thing because a while ago, i got this new x-box game i would be up late in to the night playing it. then when i got too tired i cut it off- the next morning i resumed playing and would and advance and get brand new characters but it would feel like i did the exact thing last night! but once i layed off the game i was coo.

While this might not qualify as a deja vu type of situation, but I have the following happen to me alot, and was wondering if any others have too.

When I'm driving or going someplace (usually a place where I've never been too) I drive by some spot not out of the oridinary and I say to my self or get the feeling that "I'll bet I'll come back to this place" and I swear in less than a few days (never more than a months time) I do end up back at that place for something, whether its business or personnal. Its downright freaky at times. I guess you can say its reverse deja vu.

I've had a few freaky experiences but have not had any for quite some time now. I remember one very strong deja vu time when we were on holiday in Ireland. Non of my family had been there before and we went into a restaurant. I began feeling a bit odd as the wallpaper seemed familiar and I knew something spooky was going to happen. We sat down and I took a menu and my dad passed a comment that he didn't have one and I knew he was going to say it and knew his exact words. I then said I was experiencing deja vu and my dad said I was being silly and then all of a sudden the strange feeling left and the experience was over.

Another time I opened a cupboard and went to get a drink. There was three bottles to pick and I get deja vu again and knowing I was having it, I wondered if I could change 'the future' but I couldn't and picked up the bottle I knew I would.

Or, as a theory, could it all just be they were not real experiences but very life-like dreams that get stored away in your memory and your brain 'thinks' they were real life experiences that you remember at points later in life? - ie in my situation where I was on holiday, maybe I had a dream whilst I was away that was extremely life like that I didn't remember having. Now when I think back, I remember having a deja vu experience but it could just have been I am now remembering a dream that I didn't know I had and think it is deja vu?

These days I have recurring dreams rather than deja vu. I wake up and think 'I deamt that dream before' but then I ask myself 'did I dream it before or did my dream tell me I had dreamt it before and this was the first time?'

I really should keep a notebook with dates and times of these things so I can clear it up once and for all.

Very interesting... The same has happend to me. And that is a good idea, that way you can be sure.

Its funny you mention that, I've been told on numerous occasions to have a pad and pen close to the bed to write down what I dream if I wanted too. But as usual I never do thinking I would remember and I end up not remembering after a few moments. Very good idea.

yeah thats what happens with me. Never mention that you are having deja vu because that wasnt part of ur original memory so it ends the experience right there.

well, the weird thing was, in that experience in the restaurant, I knew I had said to my dad that I was experiencing it so I couldn't stop myself from saying it.

the theory that ive heard about it ( which makes sense to me cause it usualy happens when im tierd or whatnot) is that your brain is fatigues, and slows down to a point where it processes what you are seeing or where you are twice in a row, so the second time to process it you feel like you have seen it before in a dream...but hove you ever noticed that you can never pinpoint when you had the supposed "dream", i donno, this theory just makes the most sense to me

i dont know how it works but i always like freeze and stop for a moment and think but i've done this before or that this has happened before but one deja vu is the "why are you ignoring me?" thing i get from a friend wait that's not me thinking it's happened before. it happens every fucking day.
