Gear Shifter Problem ???

On my shifter (automatic tranny), when I put the car into Drive the light indicator jumps and goes into Drive. This doen't bother me that much. When I put the car into 'Reverse' the lights jump and it shows that I am in Drive, the car however reverses. When I put the car into Neutral light indicates that I am in Park.

This also shows exactly on my front display under neath my odemeter.

What is the problem? And how can I fix it?

Looks like a sensor problem or wiring connection problem between the sensor, computer, and display. Or maybe you car has a mind of it's own and is trying to communicate with you.

Could it be a Neutral Safety Switch?
