Hello. I am new to this message board and have a 92 LeSabre which is in excellent condition. Aquired it from my grandmother therefore maintained regularly and barely driven.
I haven't had any problems with it until this morning when I got in my car. The ABS light went on. I took my car for emmisions test yesterday and now the light is on. Do you think it's a coincidence or that could have done it. Please let me know before I go and complain to them and they just laugh at me. Thanks!

Yeah, it runs fine. Just annoys me that the light is on and have never had any other problems with it for the past year. Plus taking a road trip next weekend and really don't want anything wrong with it or anything that may go wrong.

So I asked my mechanic about the abs light going on after the emissions test and he said that could very well happen. He told me to disconect the battery and that may do the trick, if not then bring it back to the people. So i tried the battery trick, didn't work. Checked my sensors, checked brake fluid, everything fine. Went back to the emissions test center and they said that sometimes it takes about a week for the light to go off but usually on foreign cars. Is this true or are they trying to just make me look like a dumb girl who knows nothing about cars. I had never heard of anything like that, but doesn't mean it's not true.

Mel,
I've seen many cars driving around with the ABS light shining from the dash. Seems the sensors are pretty finicky. On for a while and off for a while. While the light is lit, it means you have your normal braking capabilities but probably not the computer assisted ultra-fast pumping of your brakes in a panic stop situation.
To test it go out on a deserted straight away and try a panic stop from about 55 mph. Don't take your foot off of the brake or pump them during the stop. See if you feel the pulsating action in the brake pedal. If so it is working. If they lock up that probably means the ABS is not working and the sensor needs replacing.

normally e-checks will set speed sensor faults, try clearing them and if they return they may just set one fault for a single bad wheel speed sensor, speed sensors are a common abs problem

I quote "He told me to disconect the battery and...So i tried the battery trick, didn't work." The only way this will not reset all codes is if it was reconnected before 10 seconds had passed :)
