My 1992 LeSabre starts fine, idles fine, shift fine, but when i drive it sounds like something is scraping, worse when i turn. When I backed up, cut the wheel, and stopped to drive again, the car wobbles in a wave motion. I then drove it back to its other parking spot and again it sounded like it was scraping. My car has been in this state for about a month and I have not been driving it.
I am not sure what exactly is wrong because in the week prior to this, a couple of odd things happened. For about 3 days in a row, if my car went 53 - 65mph for 3secs or more, a high pitched whirring sound kicked on, almost sounded like some sort of small electric engine whirring too fast for itself. I was told this was a dirty transmission filter. Then on day 4, after driving on a thruway for about 24 minutes @ 65mph, just after I got off of the thruway into a 30mph zone, the car started losing its ability to go. The engine revved fine, but I guess the transmission was not working correctly. I would hit the gas and only the engine would rev, then it would catch and go for a bit, then just the engine would rev. At this point I figured it still must be the transmission filter, but I was told it may have been the CV joint.
I would like to hear your opinnions on this because I am not sure where to take this, if it is the tranny, I will go to a tranny specialist, but I am not sure who deals with CV joint problems.
