98 GCL Engine cuts out and stops while on freeway with AC on. The engine will not restart unless I disconect the AC sensors, replace the connectors and the engine will start. ????

HI, WHEN YOU SAY YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT A/C SENSORS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE RELAY IN THE POWER DISRTIBUTION BOX BEHIND THE BATTERY DALE [email protected]

Hi, I am just a lay person so please forgive if I do not use the proper terminology. To answer your question, no. I mean the connectors on the tube that crosses on the to and front part of the engine and on what I believe is the A/C accumulator.

We made a 400 mi. trip this past weekend. Kept the A/C and no problem at all. It is somehow related to the A/C but how would that cause the engine to cut out and quit?

I am no Certified Mechanic, but I do all my work my self, and I have learned a few things along the way so I may be wrong but it may be ur belt tension, do u notice ur Battery guage fluctuating at all. I had a problem with my belt being stretched out and when I would run my A/C it owuld low the pulleys down, and I could here something it sounds like water swooshing around.
So my theory is ur belt may be stretched, check it out when u have the ac on and engine running u will c the belt flapping around.
it is prolly not supplying the voltage from the Alt. to the battery to keep it charged. and causing everything to shut down.
I dunno maybe just another shot in the dark.

Thanks but it turned out to be the two sensors on the transmission. Once they were replaced, the problem went away.
