Axle Pivot Bushings

Does anyone have any experience replacing the axle pivot bushings?
My 2WD '88 Supercab has a shake in the front end (much like driving over "rumble strips") predominately between 25 and 35 mph. At other speeds a mild shake is notice-able, but not severe.
I've changed tires, shocks and the radius arm bushings. The steering connections and wheel bearings seem OK. The only thing I can see left is the axle bushings themselves.
The replacement bushings are cheap enough, but I've heard a few horror stories about frozen spring fasteners and elongated holes in the crossmember.
Opinions/suggestions?
Thanx,
Keith
