Enamel primer

I'm using Model Masters enamel primer, but I get a small amount of orange peel. Is it because I'm using acrylics? I'm thinking about picking up some automotive primer.

It might just be that Model Master Primer is not really in fact Primer. It is more of a off white paint. It doesnt sand like the tamiya primer. I would go for the automotive paint or tamiya surface primer.

Enamel primer sounds like a true oxymoron. If you care about building good models do not use Testor's enamel primer. I would try their new laquer primer or use Tamiya,Duplicolor or Krylon. DO NOT USE TESTOR'S(ENAMEL) PRIMER!!!!! It's not really primer it's just satin paint. It does not sand properly.

Duplicolor or Plasticote are the best, Krylon is ok too except it prbably takes a little more sanding, but it's very good when you have done allot of bodywork. One word of caution spray them all very lightly at first and build it up because if applied to wet it can attack the plastic.

i use only dupli-color paints on my cars never had any problems

I wont have to worry about that. I'm going to extract it from the can and spray it through my airbrush. Anyone know what I should use to clean out my airbrush after spaying the primer?

ive used Testors primer plenty of times and have come up with no problems. Then again all i use is testors paint so maybe thats why. It comes out smooth enough and takes to wetsanding...not very well but it DOES sand.

So your saying I should strip it?

yes Strip it. If you use Acrylic primer or paint over it, the paint will crack

strip that primer, and put the spraycan in the garbage. Any other brand of primer will be better than Testor one

Thanks for the heads up Vric. I'll pick up some automotive primer at the hardware store later today.

Try to get Acrylic Primer. any paint will work over this
