so the rods i ordered on ebay came today... actually i drove across town to get them. got home and went to put bearings in 'em... got 3 rods done and realized the rest of the bearings i had were all corroded... it sucked ass. so i email the guy who sold 'em to me and he's gonna hook me up. so then he calls me and we talk, and he has me test-fit a rod onto my crank. lo and behold, it's too damn big, just as he suspected. turns out i was trying to use a stock windsor journal on the chevy-sized crank journal. d'oh. anyway, he's gonna straight-up trade me, as he's an authorized SCAT dealer and gets the stuff cheap. new bearings too. very cool guy. so i talk to him some more and it turns out he knows exactly the pistons that'll work with my application, and saves me from being overcharged by Ross. very cool. then it turns out that his balancing jobber can hook me up too, so by the end of the week i should have a rotating assembly ready to undergo final assembly. now i just gotta finish my block prep (not much to do), clean the block (garden hose/hair dryer... scary) and oil 'er down. then, reinstall my cam and wait for my belt drive to arrive... more like save money for said item.
so there you have it... finally some progress on my 408. enjoy. i'll update more as progress happens. maybe even pics if i feel like getting a cardomain account.

6.200" rods. i was gonna use 6.250" at first, but i found that getting pistons for them would be tricky. an off the shelf set will give me the compression i want with my heads, whereas to use the longer rods i'd have to either get custom pistons or have my heads milled. but i'm excited... this is the first progress i've been able to make on this motor in months.
