Hey guys i was just browsing the gallery at RCdrift, and i saw a HPI FD3S with the chameleon paint job, here is a link
http://rcdrift.rs-scooby.com/gallery/RCDrift/Kameraguyfd02
As some of you know, i bought a CEN CT4S RC car and was planning this kinda paint job for the body i want, now i was looking at the chameleon paint set at the local walmart, the paint comes in a set, 1) a black base coat, 2) the actual chameleon paint 3)a special clear coat to enhance the chameleon effect. Now since the body is gonna be see thru, i cant do the base coat first, so i was thinking go the opposite way, first the clear, then paint, then the black. Now i was wondering if any1 had ever done this type of paint job on a RC body? is the steps iam taking right? Any suggestions would be helpful =]

Geez, you guys need to buy rc car action magazine or look around on the net some more...LOL j/k
Parma has sold paint like that for years now made for lexan r/c car bodies. I forget what it's called but i know parma makes it because i used it on a r/c dragster a couple of years ago. Its a semi transparent paint (much like pearl purple) that you paint on and then paint another color on. It looks like he used a purple color and backed it up with a blue.
Edit: Here it is, called faschange paint. When i used it i used very little purple backed up with yellow. The yellow would changed from yellow (duh) to pink/purple. The more you paint on the more the color changes. It NEEDS to be airbrushed on. Otherwise you will have ugly brush strokes in the paint.

nah dont do it, unless u want to screw it up. they call it first, secound, and third coat for a reason. it wont turn out right at all. its hard enough just doing it the RIGHT way.

I would start with clear, then chameleon, then black, it should work

Ron you need to paint the inside of the body. You do the color first. Do one layer. Let it dry. Do a second layer. Let that dry. Then back that up with silver or white. Should work.

Steve, iam painting the inside of the body, ur just looking at it from the side, and ya i was thinking of that too, but it says the colour change effect wont be all that it can be without the clear
