ok hi everone this is my first post here. i probaly have the worst car here that well atlest start. its a 1992 pos caravan. o were to begin were to begin. ok how about the smoke that poors out of the car like i have a few hippies stuck in the tailpipe. i mean it will wraps around the car and will go into peoples windows 3 lanes away; but i love to c there smiling faces as they role up their windows and shoot me the finger. its does from the time i start it up to the time i turn it off. and has done so for the last year that ive hade it. also for a year before that that my sister had it. this car is grade A, top of the line, 100% bucket crap. this is the first maybe not the worst but the most inbarassing thing wrong with the car. the 2nd is the fact that the wheel must not like the axel very much cuz its trying its hardiest to part from it. it wabbles and shakes the car so bad its feels like my tires are a triangle, and is so loud i have to turn the radio up almost all the way just to hear over the noise, not to mention its ruined 2 tires. ive never asked anyone about the smoke but the tire, i asked this one guy and he drove it and sayed its the wheel baring. please help me i can do all the work myself with the help of my brother but its hard for him to find the time to help me figure out whats the matter with the car. thinks alot

In-laws had the same problem with the smoke. You're burning oil and you have to get the piston rings replaced. It costs a lot of $$ and takes a lot of time if you do it yourself, so it might just be time to get a new one since you have 208k on it already. I didn't know they could last that long!

BTW - Caps on the front of a sentence helps a lot when reading through a post.

well i dont think thats a option but i thought it was the rings but its white smoke and i looked on-line and they say oil is black smoke so i dont think thats its oil . also i took out ther spark plugs cuz i thought one of them might of been fouled out but it didnt have much oil just a little bit pry were i touched something else cuz the motor is so dirty. so i was thinking it might b the head gasket with anti-freeze but thats not it cuz theres no water driping out so that cant b it. people have told me that its the valve seals, but other people told that was wrong so i dont have a clue. but yea its amazing how lost its lasted when people make fun of it i say he lest c how crapy your car is once its gets that many miles on it if it even makes it that far.

Hey, i was reading your post... I have a 93 caravan with 248,000 miles on it, that and my MX-3 at 214,000 now..
From what you've said, I can tell you that you have a leak in your head gasket. It's not bad enough to cause compression problems between cylinders, btw black smoke is a rich mixture (too much gas), blue (oil), white (water/antifreeze). If you know how to work on cars, I also recommend you to change the head gasket & piston rings yourself. You'll probably spend about 60 bucks in parts.. and you can do it all in 1 weekend... I did it on a friday - sunday... It's actually not as hard as it seems...

Are you needing to add oil every one or two weeks?
Do you need to add coolant?
If you are not burning oil, then is coolant.
If you are burning oil, it can be many things.
Worn cylinders, valve stem seal is leaking, etc.
If you have so many miles, be ready to do a full rebuild of the engine. Not just $40.00 but $600 or $700 if you do it yourself. You need to take the engine out, check the block, bore or hone the cylinders. Have the heads work on, put new valve stem seals. New rings, new oil pump, complete head gasket set. Send the fuel injectors for cleaning. Jose.

hello i am chris,
when it is a blown head gasket, is the van still driveable, any chance of it catching on fire, coolant is in exhaust, white smoke, 260,000 miles, small amount of smoke under hood.
