I have a high milage 1990 Taurus and it gallops at idle, it almost seems as if the car is idling too low or somthing like that because it's good for 10 or 15 seconds then it starts to gallop as the engine idles slower and slower, is their any way that I can speed up the idle manually (without computers or electronics) or has anybody else had this problem and know of a solution? Thanks for any help

There are a number of things that could cause this. One of them would be a vacuum leak. Check the EGR valve thoroughly. It may be stuck open or the vacuum operated diaphragm could be leaking vacuum. Check and or replace the PCV valve and air filter. There are other issues also but these would be the first to check as they are the easiest.

The air port in your throttle body may be partiall plugged with carbon.

Carefully remove the throttle body. On the body is an electronic sensor with one way screws. You can use a sharp chisel to break the screws loose (do not cut the screws off). You have to reuse the screws.

Use turpentine or mineral spirits to thoroughly clean the throttle body.

DO NOT USE LAQUER THINNER OR ANY OTHER HOT SOLVENT. It will remove the interior coating and cause you even more problems.

After cleaning, Wip out all of the areas that you can reach in the plenium intake and air intake, then reinstall the sensor and then put the throttle body back into place. Your idle surge (most noticable when the a/c is on) should be gone.
