Ok I have a 1991 honda civic hatch with a ZC engine 89', and a short ram intake, well everytime i race i get beat, lol, its gay, but when should I shift, this is for everyone who owns a zc engine, in first my RPM's redline at 4000 or around there, and after that it just seems like its laggin, cuz i shift then slam on the gas, and my RPM's jump from about 1000 to 6, 7000, i hate it cuz then i gatta wait till like it catches up or sumthin then i can slam the gas again, but i only gatta deal wit it for a lil cuz i know a guy wit a four door civic who always beats me, lol its a SOHC engine wit CAI, spark wires, and muffler tip, he always beats me and i dunno if thats spose to happn, hes got like 160Hp i think though, but the same guy knows a place where we can get b18c's with about 270Hp or sumthin around there, and its a stock engine, about 5 0r 600 dollars for the swap, i cant beleive it yet though, but ill post again if its legeit, but plz sumone tell me wat im doin wrong or do ZC's just suck ass?

Are you gasing it before you let the clutch pedal back up most or all the way? If that's the case you're not giving the clutch enough time to grab and engage. So try not to gas it so much and go easy on it till you know where it engaes and know how to drive it regularly. But if the clutch pedal is up most the way or all the way, then you're clutch is f***ed; and it's not gripping and just spining. Either one of these would cause your RPM's to jump high very quickly.
There's no way your buddy has 160hp with just those mods on a SOHC engine; the most he could have is 135-140 at the crank. And there's no way there could be a stock b18c that has 270hp; the Type R has 200hp stock. Unless of course the motor is turbo'd but it sure as hell won't cast just $5-600. Sounds like the guy you know is spitting out bulls**t to you.

"The Beast" Crate motor. Remembered the ad in the Aug Modified mag. Here's the only link I could find, and no price; page 8: http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/74026G.pdf
You're better off buying an ITR complete sway than spending all the $$$ you'll have to shell out for that thing. I'm sure it's reallly expensive, but 270hp and 185tq is nice.

yeah sounds like to me that your clutch is messed up and what do u mean ur car redlines at 4000 in 1st?

travagliante
07-14-2004, 01:34 AM
hmmmm maybe it gets 160hp on a stock engine is because its got a High Performance muffler tip. Come on people youve never seen those the add like 20 hp at the wheels.
lol
um im thinking you a bad drive and it seems like he has that much.

07-14-2004, 04:11 PM
lol wat do u mean, anyways when i said it redlined at first it was redlineing in first at 4000, cuz when it got too 4000, it would get loud u know like im redlineing, and the RPM needle wouldnt move past there it would just like move from like 4000, to 3500, u know like when it redlines but ya, and the ghuy SAID he had 160hp, i dunno, i didnt wanna go against his word cuz i dont know all that much and the "mods" i said he has were the obvious ones, i dunno if he did anythin internally, i doubt it but i dunno, o ya, and the intake manifold didnt look nuthin like mine, i dunno if it was stock, but i like pointed up, like intead of facing the left it went strait up, i dunno wat the deal wit that is. But i know a stock D15 or 16 i forgot has 125 or sumthin, cuz his cars a 96 LX, and i think a CAI adds 10-15 so thats 135 i dunno the rest, but ya...

civic_geek133
07-14-2004, 05:52 PM
i think a CAI adds 10-15 so thats 135

your luckey if a intake on our cars adds 5

a CAI adds no noticeable change in performace

KaMaKaZiPyRo
07-14-2004, 06:30 PM
O shit, foreal? I didnt know that, but whats the point of even getting one then? Cuz like wen im lookin around online some say up to 25 Hp, but what about that manifold, those come stock or what?

BLU CIVIC
07-14-2004, 07:05 PM
intake, full exhaust (header, cat, cat-back exhaust) adds somewhere in the range of 15-22 bhp which equals about 10-8 fwhp

KaMaKaZiPyRo
07-14-2004, 07:55 PM
o shit, thats it? damn thats, sad, so how do people get like 3 or 400hp?

BLU CIVIC
07-14-2004, 07:59 PM
those modifications are mearly the help the engine breathe and to help throttle response

but to get those high hp #'s u need engine work...and that's where it gets expensive...u could either swap or keep the d series and work with that

civic_geek133
07-14-2004, 08:22 PM
what he said, those mods dont give you alot of power but if your just daily driving the car thats as much as i would go

KaMaKaZiPyRo
07-14-2004, 08:53 PM
oo i get it, but i heard that swapping other engines besides zc and w/e would take some custom work to fit in a 91' hatch, im tryin to get a b18c1 in my 91' hatch, but im not sure around how much ill be paying, so if anyone could gimme an estimate for the engine and the work ill be paing for hook it up.

BLU CIVIC
07-14-2004, 09:41 PM
why a b18c1...get a d series engine and turbo it...just as good as a b series...guy made his d series 500hp...people underrate the d series b/c if itz initial power and opt for a b series...mod a d series for the price of the b series and u'll have much more power

CivicSpoon
07-14-2004, 10:14 PM
amen BLU CIVIC, if I wasn't so sick of all my friends having turbos and problems with their setups (because they don't know what they're doing with some thing sometimes) then I'd be turboing a d16. People are doing 10psi daily driven on STOCK tuned D's, it's the way to go.

KaMaKaZiPyRo
07-15-2004, 12:04 AM
ight, but wich D series? and uh my cat back is like blown completely off like more than half the cat-back , so im getting it fixed, but what would they put? Would it count as a cat-back and add performance? Or would thy just add a stock.

Hilikus Funkin
07-15-2004, 12:56 AM
they would put just a stock exhaust back on when they fix it, and no they will not add performance. If you dont want to spend too much on an exhaust get a pacesetter exhaust or like one for around $300. Im gonna probably get a thermal r+d turbo exhaust when i get my new car.

whats the right way of shifting ? here how i shift tell me if its wrong.i start off about 3500rpm off the line and than shift at 7k and hold the gas and hit second and than it stays around like 5 and 6 rpm and the same way throw out the trany.

Okay, your friend/opponent/whatever with the weird intake that faces up (I'm assuming throttle body is what your talking about) probably has dpfi, watches fast n furious too damn much, and is so full of bs that it's coming out of his nostrils... haha.

Also, like Blu said, the CAI and exhaust add-ons just make the car breathe/operate a little better, a tune-up plus fresh intake and exhaust parts gives a fresh engine feel.

And as far as your exhaust falling apart: If you don't want to spend loads on a cat-back set-up and you're running a d15 (and will continue to) get a header, then go to a custom muffler shop and have them set you up with "aluminized piping" about 2" in diameter... that's plenty for a 1.5... and get the muffler of your choice. I recommend, however, that if you get a canister muffler, get a resonator/silencer installed in the middle section of your exhaust piping somewhere... any other style muffler it probably won't matter too much.

Oh, and so you don't kill your clutch and drivetrain, try "slipping" the clutch, not "dumping/popping/etc." but DON'T ride it! Just ease it out, try to drive so that the car doesn't buck at all when you shift gears. One thing that helps is don't give it gas until the clutch pedal is all the way out. You can't race your car until you know how to drive it.

Forced induction, or something more than a 4cylinder (such as a viper v10, lol)...I don't know of many naturally aspirated 400hp 4cylinders

PS...Sell your car and get an automatic.

BLU CIVIC
07-15-2004, 09:37 PM
for ur exhaust i say get a turbo muffler with 2-1/4" from the cat back from a muffler shop...sounds real nice...has a kinda low deep tone...but if u plan on going turbo...then go ahead and get 2-1/2"

I wasnt talkin abou a stock 400hp 4 cylinder, i was askin what you need to get there

When you say slipping the clutch do you mean let the clutch go a lil and hold the gas to like 3500 RPM's? O ya and my muffler is stock, my shits loud as hell, but the thing is the my exhuast comes down from the right and is supposed to curve into the left but before it curves to the left and exits out the bottom left, it looks like it exploded or sumone stuck in a huge ass fire cracker. Does that dpfi do anything that another one dont? Lol, ya and uh my engine is a ZC DOHC wit intake, damn my intake dont even have that hose that connects to the engine, am i losin a lil power wit that? Ya and im gunna get a 2 1/4 inch pipe for my exhaust, thanx.

the d15b2 has 92 hp (Dx)
the d16a6 has 108 hp (Si)
the 88-89 d15b6 has 62 hp (hf)
the 90-91 d15b2 has 70 hp (hf)
the d15b8 has 70 hp (cx)

you got your numbers quite a bit off bro

You shouldn't have to when driving around regularly. I'm talking about when you're at a stop light and the light turns green, the car is idling at around 1000rpms or less, whatever, and you barely give it gas and easily let the clutch out. Dude, the clutches on these cars are very easy to operate and you shouldn't have to rev over 2000 rpms just to pull away from a light... unless you have 6 puck-er and want to look like an ass dumping it all the damn time in traffic and killing your knees in the process :screwy:

...And for people who don't know how to speak proper english, or know how to drive a stick shift.

Also, if automatic's are "gay"...why do a lot of muscle cars that are fast as hell run auto's? Granted they are race trannies, but still.

KaMaKaZiPyRo
07-17-2004, 12:10 PM
Whats speaking porper english and auto have to do with each other?? That one was real tough of you buddy, maybe I wouldnt clown nif yours was a muscle, but my mistake, you do have one, damn just noticed your avatar, do me a favor, next time anythings directed to you raise your hand before you speak, cuz for sumone who drives an auto sure can say alot for someone driving a stick right?

CivicSpoon
07-17-2004, 01:13 PM
A lot of muscle cars use them because there are race trannies available, and because you get consistant times with them. And all drag strips I've been to have a sepecial class that the person with the most consistant times in the season win a cash prize. And they're probably too lazy to shift ( ;) that part was a joke though)
