it probably is, the Altima seems to have a lot of problems with the oxygen sensor, crank sensor, cv boots, and radiators....I'm not aware of very many problems with the maxima.

so I'd say Maxima, which is a shame because I have an Altima lol

man i dont know but hes right about the sensors though and the distributor also goes bad on them but there easy to replace ur self, the maxima has a v6 in it though and can be fast with an x-pipe and ecu and can be nasty fast with jus little upgrades theres a video of it on kazaa maxima verses shitty si, the maxima walked the dog on the si then ran from it by the time they were done the maxima taillights almost werent visable especially in a five speed i would say yes to the maxima even though i also have an 5 speed altima but also ask the maxima people in their room

Id have to say Maxima. Never had any problems with mine.

I would have to say that they are just about the same except the altima is cheaper on maitnance since it's a 4cyl not a 6

I Dont Know Man, All I Can Say Is That I Just Purchased A 96 Atltima And Spent About 1,000 Dolloars On Repairs So Far. Perhaps They Are Due To The Previous Owner Not Properly Maintaining His Car. But Some Of The Items That Ive Replace (and Im Not Joking) Are, 4 Tires, 4 Spark Plugs, Wires, Rotor, Rear Brakes, 3 Motor Mounts, Battery, Alternator, 1 Drive Axile, 2 O2 Senors, And The Air Filter. Thats Alot Of Stuff, And The Car Still Has A Few Kinks, Thats All For A Car Will Less Than 135,000 Miles. In Addition To That, The Interior Trim Pieces Aren't Quite Up To Par. In Fact I Also Have A 92 Intergra With 220,000 Miles, And Its Faster And The Ineterior Is Still Flawless. So My Verdict Is That, If You Do Choose A Altima, Make Sure That It Has Been Well Maintained Because It Has A Strong Appetite For Parts

I don't know of a front wheel drive vehicle that doesn't have CV boot issues. Alternators on each are even as are tires, sparkplugs, brakes, air filter, and every other piece. Maxima parts cost more. Altimas have a timing chain that doesn't need maintenance. When the timing belt brakes on a Maxima, this discusion is over. Repairing the bent valves is so expensive that replacing the engine can be a better alternative. Both are very dependable as are Hondas. Altimas are the most reliable and the least expensive as far as maintenance.
