Intake/Exhaust Noise?

I've been a Maxima owner for a long time now with a 1990 GXE and a recently aquired 1997 SE 5-spd.

I'm now interested in modifying the SE because it kicks butt! However, I wish to add horses and not create the outward appearance of cop magnet.

I'm interested in a nice low growl but nothing that's annoying.

So, I've already ordered the JWT POP Intake. I imagine this modification doesn't change the sound of the engine.

Next items I'm looking at are the y-pipe, high-flow cat and muffler set.

Can anybody recommend the best combo of HP gain vs. sound/look?

Looking at the Stillen muffler, I'm asking myself why is it so expensive and how long will it last and will it drive me crazy. :D

Thanks for the help!

I have a stillen s/s exhaust I got at the last stillen open house for $100 ;) It did substantually increase the sound of the exhaust, though I have a CAI and Y-pipe already, so thats to be expected. It has a nice deep sound, but can be a bit droning at times. I've heard the quitest exhaust is the APEX-I WS, which I've found for sale many times on www.groupbuycenter.com though I'm not sure if any sales are going on right now. For the Y-pipe, I think the hp gains are all going to be similiar, within fractions of hp. A muffler is only going to give you a couple Hp's at best. The JWT will add a little noise to your car, but mostly when you go WOT. The Y-pipe adds the most power and is what I would recomend. BTW, I've driven right next to and past cops here and haven't even gotten a dirty look yet. Sleeper baby, sleeper... :D Good luck.

I have Apex-i WS installed on my 95 GLE, it's super quiet only growls when you drive it around 3k RPM
