possible head gasket?

hey there everyone....i drive a 96 eclipse rs and my engine is light is always coming on. when i took it in last (which was about a week ago) the people there said i had a blowby. also i had the pcm and the ignition coil replaced because my car was stalling in 5th gear. even with all that fixed there is white smoke coming out of the exhaust and also the engine shudders and putts but hasnt quit yet. people are telling me that it is the head gasket but the oil isnt milky when i checked it. the last mechanics that worked on it were telling me that i either should rebuild or replace the engine but i dont know if i should spend the time and the money for all that. so i ask if anyone out there knows what would be the best thing...and also i dont want to give up my car because i love it!! (lol)

get a head gasket, thermostat, water pump, and timing belt put on
