a note to all Vortec owners. i wish i had known. all the parts on this POS are special order according to the corner parts store and about $50 more than the regular 4.3 engines. they gave me the wrong cap, rotor, thermostat, fuel pump, and wires to this truck. who would have thought that an intensive tuneup could accumulate so many problems.

Make sure to specifie that your engine is a Vortec (if it is) and what the tenth digit in the VIN is, whether they ask or not!

I've got a '94 4.3l Vortec, and have never had a problem getting parts at the local shop. I've done tons of tune-ups and work on my own, never a problem. And never at any super high cost. I can only guess that the person working at the store wasn't the smartest person around, and may have the cause of your problems. Or he wasn't smart enough to ask you if it was Vortec or not.
But on the safe side, to cover yourself, tell 'em exactly what you have. i.e V6 4.3L Vortec CMFI with or without a/c.

i know that now. after about 5 extra trips up there, 3 exchanges and 2 special orders. i hooked up with the store manager on the 2nd try. its good to have a contact up there that knows what he is doing. i have this thing with fixing my truck myself. maybe its pride.
