Oil light?

A month ago I had my 100K mile maintanence.
4 days ago I checked my oil and it was about 1cm below the lower line on the dipstick, and I added oil.
A couple days ago I just noticed that my oil light is on while I start my engine every time. It turns off once the engine is completely started. Is the light supposed to be on this long, or is it supposed to turn off the instant I turn the key to start? Thanks. btw, I have a 97 SH

I believe that is normal i have that same thing. Just when you start the car my oil light is one and then after the starter stops it truns off. I have a 92 si. and going to 170,000 miles still very stong running.

the oil light should go off after the engine starts, when the oil pump developes enough pressure. the oil pump is driven by the engine turning.

More info: I noticed that the light is on for about one second (after the engine starts). But, if the car was already running, and a RE-start, the light doesn't stay on at all after I start.

i'll watch mine, but one second is ok. was a different oil filter put on when service was done, some oil filters may take a little longer to build oil pressure.

replace the sensor or check oil pressure at the sensor port with an oil pressure guage. you can check for voltage at the sensor, but i'm not know if it would be on/off as with a switch or varies with oil pressure. it should make some kind of change.
