Yet Another Starting Issue

Jeep is an '88 4.0l w/BA/10 (yeah I know... Peugot sucks) and yes I am having tranny issues but I know those are the syncros.
Symptoms (starting issue). Cold Morning - Starts with no issues (99%)
Sitting in HOT Sun all day (not run) Outside temp hot - Cranks forever. If I push the fuel pedal to the floor while cranking will eventually start. but if I dont apply the fuel pedal she wont start, just crank and crank.
Basically the warmer outside the worse the problem. cold days it seems to be fine.
Oh... once the engine is started once , if I re-start it within about 5 minutes its not a problem. starts on first crank. However if I leave it for a bit (say 20 mins) problem re-occures.
I cant see it being a fuel pressure issue as I can leave it for a weekend without starting it and it'll fire first try (cold morning).
Anything you guys can suggest is appreciated. I just picked up the Crank Position Sensor and will be installing it this weekend. Same with Intake/Exhaust gaskets (which are both leaking). Im hoping that will help.

88 XJ, is this fuel injection or carb?

If your intake is leaking , it might be cuasing your problem, let me know if it gets any better.

HI, SOUNDS LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE FUEL PRESSURE GUAGE HOOK ON THE FUEL RAIL AND PRESSURE CHECKED IF YOURS HAS A SMALLROUND CANISTER ON RAIL IT COULD BE BAD IT'S THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. DALE [email protected]

Dale : I've checked the fuel pressure at the rail. she's dead on spec. I also assumed this at the beginning. Fuel pressure regulator was replaced already. I can cycle the key as many times as I want aswell and it wont change a thing... (sucks doesnt it...)
gtmud : I was hoping to put the intake & exhaust gskt set on this weekend but looks like thats a no go... gotta get my bumper finished and installed before the cops bust me for not having one... But i'll letcha know if the Crank sensor does the trick. So far the problem is getting worse..

Crank Sensor helped with the rough idle part... starting issue is still hanging in strong. Next step is the Intanke & Exhaust gasket set. (that'll hopefully be this weekend).

You checked fuel pressure? Symptoms are of one or more leaking injectors. Attach pressure gauge, do not start engine but cycle ignition switch on a couple of times and off to pressurize the fuel rail. Leave the gauge attached. Pressure should hold (with switch off) for minimum of 20 minutes. If it does not, fuel is going somewhere! Car starts when cold as it has sat long enough for fuel leaked into cylinders to evaporate. Car stars when you press pedal to the floor because that open the throttle body vane, allowing large volume of intake car, which rapidly evaporates fuel. Car starts when just shut off, as it has not had time to "flood" from leaky injectors. Car starts best when cold, as richer mixture assists starting. Injector cleaner in the gas tank will not solve the problem! Have injectors cleaned, or remove them and do it yourself, or replace them. Probably not all of them are leaking, but to find out which one(s) are, you have to pull them all anyway, the entire fuel rail. Ed

Did this ever get resolved? If so what was causing the problem and what cured it. I am now having the same problem.
