i just got my liscense and my parents r gonna get me a car. after i narrow it down between a wrx and a reg. impreza, i think im gonna choose the reg 1. the purpose is that im gonna do a sr20 s14 engine swap. problem is, i dont know if it will fit and will it be worth it. a reg impreza cost about 17k. wid engine swap it's gonna come out to be around 20k. my friend told me to then upgrade the turbo and intercool. after i do that, im gonna add a bov. which will probably most likey gonna be a grand total of $25-$27k. the wrx cost about $25k.
got n e advice??? post it. i need all the help i can get!

Bad idea putting an sr20 engine in an Impreza. Even in the unlikely event that it fits, there's no way you'll be able to put the engine in the car for less than about $5k once you're done with all the parts, wiring, ECU, and everything else that needs to be changed.
For having just gotten your license, the Imprezaa 2.5 RS is more than enough car for a daily driver to learn on. You'll get yourself into trouble with the WRX. Just make sure you get the manual transmission and not the Auto in the RS.

Word to all of that, ESPECIALLY the 1st part. Why spend a ton of money and a TON of time (think year or more) trying to get a 2.0 liter turbo engine to fit that was never meant to go in the car, and end up with a low quality car, when you can spend less money and just get a 2.0 liter turbo that was actually meant for the chassis. I'm not saying necessarily get the WRX, but an RS with a WRX or EJ22T swap makes a WHOLE lot more sense.

rex21......you are too young to own an STI. period. i dont care how good you think you are but there is no substitute for experience. Also, Id say your parents arent the brightest people in the world for letting you consider a vehicle that can easily be a death trap in the wrong hands. I suggest starting out with something milder, then working your way up. no offense, just dont want to see a kid get killed.

agreed, I drove a 94 Nissan Sentra for my first car till I got out of college. I just bought a 2002 WRX and I know for a fact if I tried the same stupid shit in the rex as I did my sentra I would be a grease spot on the road.

Agree'd!! ^^^
I Used to sell WRX's for a month than went back to my Valet job..
Anyways i could take a 35mph offramp at close to 85mph. i would have all these little punks come out and try to drive it, than leave. Its really not a good car for your first car. That and i dont know who's parents would spend $25,000 on a brand new first car for there kids. my first car was an 89' Honda Accord

Rex21 I think you have too much Initial D in your head??? First off if you cant drive auto then you shouldnt own a car... The second thing is read up on Imprezas before you go ahead and ask if you can put a nissan engine in a Subaru... Honestly if you wanted to do the swap its fine but how about the wiring, and how will the trans bolt up, and how reliable will it be in the end? There are a lot more things to take into consideration before you go ahead and say I want this body and I want this engine and so forth. If you do get an Impreza please dont be a ricer and take care of it. It is a car that you will enjoy for years to come if you take care of it right.
My 2cents but you shouldnt get a WRX because I think you would get in too much trouble... Just my opinion... Sorry dude

that swap seems like the biggest wase of money ever, and its very unlikely that the engine will fit. learn more about the car and get driving experience before you go and mess up a fine car. IMO if you cant drive an auto u shouldent even be on the road. just go with a s14 240sx if you like the sr20 so much.

i find it very hard to believe that u can drive manual and not auto... also buy some car magazines and talk to some people who know about cars and learn about them before u say u are going 2 put an sr20 into a wrx
