2004 Malibu LT steering problems.
First time it quit at around 6,000 miles, an entire steering column unit was sent by the factory and installed by the dealer. It lasted until 9,000 miles and the car is now in the shop again.
Dealer says he knows of only one other problem with this electronic steering assembly. Anyone else having problems???
When it works it sure has a nice feel.......... sure doesn't when it quits in traffic!

When (what month) did you have the column replaced the first time?

Replaced first time about 3,000 miles ago. I think it was in March or perhaps April.

Not sure you got my last reply so again, I think it was late April or maybe May. Anyhow, about 3,000 miles back.

OK - By that time the new column assembly should have been in use for service.
There are 2 assemblies normally serviced separately by the dealer. The steering column itself and the motor/controller assembly. I think the column is typically what has been replaced. Any idea from your repair order which assembly they replaced the first time? Got a part number or Labor Code?

Not much info on the repair order. They called the factory rep and then removed and shipped the entire assembly to a factory in Kansas (I think)
