no VTEC - no CEL either

Hi - VTEC has recently stopped engaging on my '94 Teg SI (1.8 VTEC), and I'm not getting a CEL. I've tried ruling out the (many) reasons why this coulda happened, and reckon it could be down to low oil pressure.
If that's the case, tho, should I be gettin a CEL code 22, or will that only be thrown if the solenoid oil pressure switch itself is faulty?

You said it was a SI VTEC, yet it's a 1.8? SI is a b16 1.6 VTEC, unless you have a LS VTEC. If that's the case, it could be a number of things. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can help with LS VTEC Q's...................fISH

Sorry, shoulda said - it's JDM. The JDM SI is a 1.8 VTEC. Pretty much the USDM GSR...

u can try a tune up. start canceling the little things before u go and start messing with other big things like the engine. check ur ecu aswell

yup, I've tried. Little things like checkin solenoid switch and oil pressure switch for voltage/continuity, runnin a jump to the solenoid, changing oil/filter, cleaning solenoid filters, etc etc. Still nothing...
I miss that VTEC howl!
One place has told me they reckon I need an engine rebuild, but I can't afford it.
Few more tests to do like checkin oil pressure and trying a different solenoid first...

what, if any codes are you throwing?

That's the thing - no codes being thrown. No CEL at all. And no VTEC.
Only Codes I've had were 21 and 22, and that was when I disconnected the solenoid switch and oil pressure switch myself to test 'em. Resetted the ECU since, and have had no codes since.
That's why I'm wondering if it IS low oil pressure, should I be gettin a code 22, or does that code relate only to the actual pressure switch itself?

what is your oil level at right now? maybe u just need extra oil in the car.... but if u did u would be throwing a CEL code 22.

oil level's fine. right up to upper level. One of the first things I did when this started happening was to change oil and filter.

So, not enough oil pressure WILL throw code 22??
I've finally found somewhere that sells mechanical oil pressure gauges. Should have it in a week, so hopefully I'll be able to rule out oil pressure as the cause. Next trick is to figure out what the hell else it could be.
