98 Trooper "Check Engine"

I have an Isuzu Trooper 98' with a 3.0L Diesel Turbo engine (4JX1) and the "Check Engine" light is giving me a hard time.
Very often when drivin up a hill under full throttle the "check engine" light illuminates and stays on until I reliese the throttle again, resulting in me loosing speed having to shift gears etc.
The dealer cold not find anything (I belive that they did not try very hard) and said that while it goes off I don't have to worry. Yeah right!
I have an OBD-II scan tool from Harrison R&D but it is not 100% compatible with this model. The scan tool shows an Error Code pending but it can't show me the real code. I only get some hex-number I can't make anything off.
Is there a genius out there that might have a clue what might be wrong?
