Security Light always on

What the heck is the security light anyway? The manual does nothing to give a description. Well my security lights always on and was wondering if anyone can give me some ideas as to what the light is and what the problem could be. Any help is appreciated. Thx

ok, my car had this problem too. its due to a wonderful, stupid invention by GM. Its called PASSLOCK II, i think. Notice, your key for the car has a little black square by the key handle with a silver line in it. It lets the ignition know that its the right key. When your key gets dirty, it causes the security light to come on. Clean that little metal line with a q-tip in gasoline or acetone. Dry it off, then try it. If it dont fix it, you may need to get a new ignition key tumber, matched to your key, or just ignore it. But cleaning your KEY(S) should do the trick.

What actually happened about 2 weeks aver this post i got that damn invalid key wait 3 min message on the on board computer, since then i had the keys cleaned and it hasnt happened since, but i will take your advice on how i should clean the key. Again thank you!
