'01 R/T has mushy brakes

Don't think the first post went through, so I'll try this again.

Changed the front pads on my '01 R/T and got mushy brakes. Bled the lines out and STILL got mushy brakes. Please tell me there is something else to check... I do NOT want to have to take this to a mechanic for something this simple.

You probably already delt with this but I figured I'd thow out my experience. My 2000 R/T had the same problem. I replaced the front pads and rotors (they warped) since they were almost shot, but still had a mushie pedal. I never had time to pursue it. Anyway, I ignored the problem. Quite awhile after the front pad/rotor replacement I had to do the back brakes. After rewplacing the rear pads and rotors (by the way Brmbo has OEM rear rotors for 39 bucks instead of Dodge's 90$!) the mushie pedal went away, as did an anoying rattle I could never find.

If you have ABS, which was standard on '01 R/T's as well as traction control, if you did it yourself, the way to do it is to push the caliper piston all the way back in its bore. BUT if you don't crack the bleeder screw open and drain out the old nasty brake fluid stuck in the caliper and line and it goes back to the HCU (hydraulic control unit) it'll cause mushy brakes and cause the ABS to not function. Either way, it's a costly mistake that can be avoided and HCUs for Intrepids are hard to find and expensive, a buddy of mine spent up to $800 to get his fixed on his '00 ES.
