Remote keyless entry

Does anyone know the secret to re-programming the keyless entry on an Aerio. Both of my fobs stopped working on the same day and batteries aren't the issue. I have searched the web for this info and can't find it. I will take it to the dealer if I cannot do this myself, but that is highly inconvenient for me.
Thanx, in advance for your replies.

What year is your Aerio? 2002 are not reprogrammable, you will have to have the reciever and remotes replaced..
For '03 Aerio's, use the following procedure..
PROGRAMMING A NEW TRANSMITTER
You can program up to 4 transmitter codes into controller memory. The four codes may be the same or
different. if you try to program a 5th code, the oldest code will be cleared automatically.
1) Confirm that all doors are closed and the ignition key is out of
the ignition cylinder.
2) Open the driver’s door. Insert the ignition key into the ignition
key cylinder and turn ignition switch to ON position within 10
seconds.
3) Turn the ignition switch to OFF position and remove the ignition
key from the ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds.
4) Push and release the driver’s door switch 3 times within 20
seconds.
5) Insert the ignition key into the ignition key cylinder and turn i
ignition switch to ON position within 10seconds.
6) Turn the ignition switch to OFF position and remove the ignition
key from the ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds.
7) Press the “UNLOCK” buttons on the transmitter one time within
20 secionds after step 6. All the doors will lock/unlock to confirm
that this procedure has been properly done. With this process,
the transmitter has been programmed.
8) If you want to program the additional transmitter, repeat the
procedure from step 1 through step 7.
9) Make sure that the keyless entry system properly operates by
operating each transmitter.

I tried the instructions listed here on my 2003 Aerio SX and they didn't work. Am I doing something wrong? Should I leave the door open when programming as said or reclose it.
I have two remotes that need programming, the dealer is an 1-1/2 hours away and I really don't want to fork out Dealer Service fees for a stupid 2 mintute job.
Anyone please help!

Do I re-close the door at anytime. And door switch is the lock switch correct? You said press and release driver's door swtich 3 times. This meaning toggle lock/unlock 3 times or just lock 3 times or unlock 3 times which?

Hi, just curious if you ever got an answer to your "door switch" question? The instructions you found online are correct, and they're exactly what I used to program a remote for my grand vit XL7. Sadly, these instructions don't explain what's meant by "door switch". I sure as heck thought, like you (and as other zuki drivers might think), that the door switch is the lock/unlock toggle switch on the driver's door panel. And I was extreeemely frustrated that the programming instructions didn't say whether to push the unlock or lock side of the toggle.
Well, it turns out the "door switch" isn't the lock toggle. It's actually a little pushbutton covered in black flexible rubber. This little black-covered pushbutton is on the inside of the driver's door frame--the inside frame seen only when the driver's door is open. And it's on the vertical portion of the inside frame, just below hip level--that is, if you're sitting in the drivers seat.
I learned this when I, finally, got the idea to ask the dealer who sold me the car to fax me programming instructions. The faxed instructions included a drawing of the driver's door frame with an arrow pointing to a part identified as "door switch". I tell you, what a lot of time and braincells burned, not knowing what was meant by "door switch", which made me think I didn't have the right instructions, which made me search online more, for more and other instructions!
Hope this helps someone avoid a mind-frying experience like I just had!
