help with neon lights in the interior

this is what i want to do i have four 6 inch neon lights and i am going to put them all in the interior. two under the dash and two under the front seat. i want to hook them up to the dome light. so that when i open my doors they come on and also when i hit the switch on my doom light. so what i need to know is how do i get those trim pieces off that lead to the room. what i am talking about are those trim pieces by the windows and also which wire do i use. does the doom light wire put out enough juice to run four neon lights are am i going to have to hook the up to something else. i really need help on this one. so any help would greatly be appreciated, thanks in advance i know that you all will come through for me you always have in the past.

one the dome light fuse would blow out everytime you turned them on, the circuit cant hold that much, you can however hook up a higher power fuse to the circuit but thats not recommended.
Unfortunatly i dont know how to remove the panels although im sure its just a few screws or soemthing, but a fellow 6th gener will assist you.

Id say wire them to a switch and put the switch next to your light switch so then you can turn both of them on when you want.

of course you can drive in alaska. my car is very low to the ground to. low enough that if i went any lower my stock rims would rub. when i hit a bump. but back to what i was saying. there is noone out there who knows how to wire these lights into the dome light switch.

you actually could run those four neons off that circuit but they will be extremely faint(spreading the 10/15/20 watts out over 5 items). I recommend doing the fuse-bus-thing-off-the-battery (thus garunteed full strength with some exceptions) to the dome switch and splicing it to the lead wire. They most difficult part - if you are concerned with appearance - is hiding the wire to the dome light.

you could use a relay i believe. no need of huge draw from dome light circuits but you can then run power wire to the neons and have the relay turn them on for you...

Why tap all the way at the dome light!? :rolleyes: :confused:
Just tap the power wire of the lights to a wht/red wire leading to the dome light!
YOUR HOMEWORK: This wht/red wire splits into 2 wht/red wires from the under-hood fuse/relay box. (1 going to the dome light and the other going to the trunk light) You will need to access the one going to the dome light. Find it!
Also, pls. use an inline fuse at each tap. I'll leave the mounting of the neon lights to your discretion.
NOTE: Although I have referred to my Helm's SERVICE manual, I have never done this myself. (I never thought about it) I do not know where to access the red/wire. (Sorry... :()

no offense to anyone who posted here but it sounds like unqualified b.s. to me. 1st off neon lights which house their own transformer like the 4 -6" ones you have, have a minute amperage draw. ones that small generally consume about .01-.03 volts to run. do the math: your stock overhead (dome) light draws about 6-8 watts, with a peak of 10 watts when it's turned on. that's roughly .7 volts. you won't blow your fuses my man. what you need to do to do this is as follows:
remove your dome light assembly, pop off the plastic cover and there will be 2 small scews. disconnect it from the wiring harness. remove your headliner (so that you can run the wires to the neon) or you can feed the wire through with a home made feeder. mount your neons in the locations you choose and connect all for in parallell. (positive to positive, negative to negative. connect them all to your feed wire in the same manner. once you get done, to connect the feed wire to your overhead light all you have to do is use 2 quick splice connectors to the appropriate wires, use a light tester to find the positive, the other is the negative. do not re-insert the bulb (only because it will look dumb with neons and a bright light) re-assemble your housing and attach the connector and your home grown lighting project is done.

also if the fuses do blow, just put a higher rated fuse in the fuse box eh?
