Hello everyone, a while back I was gonna buy a used z28 but instead chose to wait. Now my choices are a 1998-2000 camaro SS or leasing a new GTO. My questions are, which is really faster and has better handling, and is leasing a car really worth it or not. Also which would you guys chose if you had the choice and why? thanks for the replies. Also is buying the SS instead better for investment reasons or not?

i think a camaro would probly handle better, but the new GTO's are nice. they are rated as a 14.0 sec car, but can easily achieve mid to low 13's stock. I drove a new GTO about 2 weeks ago it's a nice car, and has an awesome sound.

How much hp does the GTO have?? Is it the same engine as the camaros?? At the dyno day we just had here and guy had a 99 LS1 camaro and it put out over 280 hp at the wheels bone stock!

GTO has the same drivetrain as a Camaro, LS1 tranny etc. But would you rahter drive a boat or a spors car???
BTW DON'T lease the damn thing, you are better off buying a used car, then paying money for a car you DON'T EVEN OWN.

gto=350 hp ls1 vette engine
ss=325 hp ls1 camaro engine
i still would take the ss i hate the gto they pussifyied it compared to the old one, i seen one on the highway and even the gran prix looks more badass... cmon but it did sound kinda good though...

all the difference the GTO had on the outside to a standard run of the mill two door sedan was the hood and the emblems so why should the new goat be more unique looking for its time?

GTO is a kick ass car. ITs even got independant rear suspension. Only some mustangs the vettes come with that.

Ive always liked the Holden Monaro and the GTO has kick ass interior. I say screw the SS.

i'm with dober on this one. i like camaro's, but there's just something about the new GTO that i like better, especially the 6spd.

The GTO is great but it would have been incredible if it was released when the platform was new the only concern I have is whether we'll get a new suspension assembly of lighter materials because American roads aren't quite as hard on suspension

The aftermarket scene for the Monaro is already flooded but as of now I would imagine most of it has to come down Austrailia.

And no diablo I dont hate camaros I just never liked 4th gens and dont give a crap about the SS.

No actually I dont dislike all 4th gens I actually like the TAs.

Dont have to get all upset because I dont like your car. And why assume I would rather have a civic?? A new mustang maybe...

Have you seen the tires on the GTO? THEY SUCK!

tires are an easy fix.. but IMHO i would go with buying the SS. not sure how leasing a car works, but im pretty sure they wouldnt like you putting aftermarket parts on it.. and with the SS you can do whatever you want. if horsepower is the issue, its not a big difference between the SS and the GTO, so why not buy the SS and put a couple hundred into it and you got it all squared away. and whoever said the GTO was a boat.. was wrong, took one for a drive not too long ago, it was sweet as hell! i dunno if its worth 35,000. for that kindof cash i'd invest in a nice C5 Corvette..

leasing is more a month and after three years you will still have to drop five grand to keep the car, so what if a loan takes longer to pay out something like that will be worth way more than you paid for it in thirty years if you take care of it

you could buy an ss and add like 10k of upgrades to it and it will outrun the gto...

10k worth of upgrades to a ford pinto would outrun a GTO.
dude i'm not trying to start an argument with ya, i just like the GTO. it's just an opinion. personally, i think a Diablo GT is an ugly car, i'm sure it's nice but thats just my opinion
