haven't done this for a while so i'm having trouble. someone moved into my apartment for a month and i'm trying to get the internet to work on her computer. unfortunately she is from turkey so her computer is in turkish (she is DAMN hot). alright so the gist of it.
I connected the lan cable from the router to the laptop and it detects the internet connection. problem is i cant get IE to get to a website or AIM to work. it shows the internet connected screen on the bottom corner. i used to know how to fix this, but not anymore. i know it is something stupid. it also did the same thing when i put in a wireless card.
thanks in advance,
sebastian

Check the DNS servers listed and whether she has static IP/DHCP.

what do you mean check for win sock?
how do i check for static settings?
Check the DNS servers listed and whether she has static IP/DHCP
i'd want it to automatically obtain, right?
thanks

Automatically obtain only if your server is set up to use DHCP. Otherwise, specify the one after your machine.
Basically, look at all the network settings on your computer and list em here. We'll tell you what to copy and what to modify :)
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Properties -> TCP/IP.
