Si cam, with MPFI, Timing cr@p...

Hey,
Well I got my MPFI done and its sweet, way better then the DPFI, but when I did my swap I went with the Si cam as well, at first everything was fine the car started up and idled perfectly but I had no bottom end and a shit load of top end so I checked my timing and sure enough it was off, WAY off.

I tried to just use the dizzy to get to the red mark but it was to far away so I cranked my adjustable timing gear 4 degrees advanced then I was able to get the dizzy to hit the red mark on the crank pully..

Now everything seems fine the bottom end is great and the top end although not as great as it was before was O.K.

This is the thing, now my idle has gone way up, its about 1000 and every few minutes or so it jumps up to around 1500 then jumps back down..

Has anyone ever seen this problem before?

Should I just mess with the idle setting or is the mark on the crank some how diffrent then the mark on the crank of a Si motor and I now have it to advanced?

my idle does that but it hasn't caused me any problems yet so I just haven't really worried about it. Can it really hurt anything..? :icon16:

My a6 does that. Not really sure why. I'd like to fix it, but it doesnt bother me enough to really get into it.

Have you tried to lower your idle using the adjustment screw at the TB?

I actually used that to raise it because it was so low when I got the car (500-650 rpm) that it almost died and sometimes did die at stop lights and stuff. After I raised it to 800-900 it started doing the thing that you described in your first post..but like I said hasn't really hurt anything so I leave it.

Have you checked your timing to see if it was right before you played with the idle adjustment screw?
