S16 Silvia

According to Super Street, the S16 might mak it here in 2006, but it will more likely be a Japan only car. It will RWD with the choice of 3 engines, the QR20DE, the VQ23DE V6 and finally the VQ25DE, a supercharged V6. If it's sent here, it will probably be named as a Sentra coupe. There will be an S16, but up to now nohing else is certain.

sentra coupe...i think more or less it will more likely keep the 240 name rather than a sentra...sentra has always had a fwd platform...don't see why they would change a good thing

well, they called it 240 because of it's 2,4l engine, now if they change it... you never know...

we in europe have the name 200sx which isn't related to anything, because our s13s come with ca18 ... and our s14 with sr20... so they should be called 180sx and 200sx if anything like that...
maybe they think we're all just dumb and buy the car because 200sx "sounds cool"

I don't want to go any further in nissan's naming methods... it's wonderful ^^

I doubt it, I mean they brought the Z back after a few years, they're going to bring the Skyline back, they're even bringing it here, why wouldn't they bring the Silvia back?

The VQ25 would help Nissan keep the '240SX' name. The motor is probably 24xxcc, so it could work. If the motor has FI(why a supercharger when there's a VQ25DET already in production?? :screwy: ), the displacement would be even lower because of a lower compression ratio.

This article from April supports the idea of a Silvia coming soon. Nissan typically doesn't mess with the definition of what a sports car is. At least not that much.

Nissan aims to boost domestic sales with new models
Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 04:00 JST

TOKYO — Nissan Motor Co will release eight models through the first half of the next fiscal year, including remodeled vehicles, to spur domestic sales, a Japanese business daily reported Tuesday.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun said the eight models include the Murano sport utility vehicle in the August-October period this year and a subcompact and a sports car in the January-March period next year. (Kyodo News)

Here's another article, though it's kinda old. It was really about the GT-R, but I took that out and left the S16 info.

'Godzilla' set to roar again
By Cameron McGavin

Nissan's revival gathers more speed, reports Cameron McGavin.

...Ironically, the arrival of Nissan's new Z-car comes just as its sweet-driving 200SX sports coupe sibling bows out of the Australian market because of problems meeting future emission regulations.

But fans of affordable sports cars need not fret, because a replacement is already under development.

Nissan's John Yukawa confirmed that a new 200SX was on the way and that it would stay true to the philosophy of its predecessor. Don't be surprised, then, if the 200SX replacement is another compact, rear-drive, turbocharged coupe.

"The 200SX is an entry car for the young guy, the Z-car is a car for the macho guy and the GT-R is a car for the enthusiast," said Yukawa. "Nissan is always seeking to provide fun-to-drive cars for the customers, especially for enthusiasts. This is the Nissan way."

You're almost 20 years too late. Remember the S12? They packed a VG30E V6.

nah, dont ban him. he prolly hasnt seen the older threads about the s16 before. i mean damn, i wouldnt wanna scroll back 20000000 pages back and reread everything thats been posted before.

well, as for my opinion. the s13-15 were its own. the s12 was nothing compared to it, and if theres a new generation silvia, than it might blow the s13-15 out of the water....but i highly doubt that it will return anytime this decade. i think the main focus for nissan is to return to motorsports with the new skyline.

nissan has been planning out very carefully, and im almost positive that the new (even though its not gonna be a gt-r) skyline will be off the chain.

nissan already has the attesa-ets system in america with the g35 sedan (only auotmatic form though). now its just time to come out with that all-motor sunvabich to drop in there.

nissan and turbo dont go hand-in-hand anymore. the emission laws in japan are simply too strict for that. so what will nissan do? evolve. ive even heard rumours about a 4.8 v8 (eew). as much as i hate extra un-nessecary cylinders, times change and so must cars.

all I know is that 5.6L engine from the Titan is the shiznit.

this is the best motor NIssan or any Japanese based motor builder has built for a regular production car. This engine is on par with the old LS1 engine in the C5 corvettes(which run a 13.1 stock) This motor would be SICK in a 240sx, you can't beat displacement, and its built exactly like the great q45 engines but with more displacement. It is very strong and I can't wait for someone to swap it into a Nissan sports car or boost that SOB

Yup, that Titan motor is the shit, and quit giving me ideas, I ain't finished with my current project and I am already day dreaming of S14s with V8s and V12s. Stop teasing me, a sweet well built car is like a fresh piece of ass, the anticipation is nerve wrecking, the unwraping is jaw dropping, the penetration is heart stoping, the final moments are breath taking, and when you are done, here comes your wife and six kids to screw things up (cops in that manner).

The GT-R has already been in development, but Nissan realizes there's a gap in their performance lineup. Nothing really entry level. That's why they're working on an S16, or at least why they should be.

nissan has been planning out very carefully, and im almost positive that the new (even though its not gonna be a gt-r) skyline will be off the chain.

The next car will be a GT-R, not a Skyline.

Japan's new emissions regs were just too strict for the older turbo motors like the SR20DET(VET is okay) and the RB-series. There are still several turbo Nissans available. They mostly use VQs. The Cedric and Gloria twins use the VQ30DET, and the Stagea uses a VQ25DET, for example. There's also the X-Trail SUV, which is powered by an SR20VET.

Nissan's been using VQ30DETTs in their JGTC GT500 cars, including the R34 GT-Rs in 2003(won the drivers and manufacturers title), and the new Fairlady Z car(set a record at Suzuka just during testing) and there's little reason to believe that the GT-R wouldn't get some sort of turbo VQ, at least in Japan.

Yeah, to me the R32 was gorgeous and it just got better every model.

And I heard that the USDM Skyline will have a V8, which is just something I read once, I dunno where, and for the record, I hope it's not true!

Personally I like how the R33 looks most, but only in gtr form...the r32 looks great in any trim it was offered in. The r34 is an amazing car, but to me it lacks much of what the r32 and r33 have in terms of styling, but it definitely kicks their asses in terms of coolness (g-force meter...along with a display that shows throttle position, brake position, boost, and nearly everything else for the car)...

And lastly...I hope to god there will be an s16 stateside, but I fear the sentra SE-R will be too close performance-wise here so Nissan won't do it. As much as the sentra se-r is a great car (esp the spec v), it pales in comparison to the styling and performance potential of any S chassis.

The Sentra might be replaced for '06, so who knows what the next SE-R will be like. Supposedly, the Sentra will be based on the Renault Megane. Just recently, Renault released the Megane RS, which uses a 2L turbo I4 with 222hp. It's not bad at all, and would make a darn good B16 SE-R.
Only thing is, an S16 based on a shortened FM chassis would blow it away, at least in terms of handling dynamics. We can only hope Nissan will see the light.

A slick move would be to offer an FM-based S16 as a Sentra SE-R or Coupe. Who cares if they don't share the chassis? Just add some styling cues to make it look like they're somewhat related, and it would probably work.

would you still be happy? HUH?!? WOULD YOU!?!?

lol yes because then it would be cheap and you can always repaint and swap in some nicer seats. Who keeps there car stock anyway?

Word. What is it going to be? A fucking Grand prix or something. And SUPERCHARGED? What is wrong with making the silvia an inline 4 KA with strengthened internals and turbocharged? Nissan needs a few new engineers on the board or something.

That isn't what the typical JP consumer wants. Otherwise, they might have actually had that instead of the SR on previous Silvias. Besides, the KA is long gone, at least in terms of car applications.

See, a VQ25DER(R=supercharged) would be a very radical departure as it is. I still don't understand how that rumor came out, since Nissan's already had a turbo VQ25 for a couple years now. I figured maybe they'd use a VQ20DET and just keep the 2L turbo lineage going. Oh well.

nissanfanatic
07-16-2004, 06:57 PM
I definately do not like the supercharger idea. The VQ20DET could definately make it a tuner car. Kinda like the WRX sti. I'm sure a very wide aftermarket would open up. There will still be a pretty big aftermarket though. I like the VQ25DET. That would be one badass engine.
