Right tire pressure

Okay, on my door panel, it says that the front tires are supposed to be like 32 PSI and the back are supposed to be 29 PSI. However, my friend said that those are only for the factory tires and since the tires I have now are different and reads 44 PSI Max, I'm supposed to have it higher--like around 36-38 PSI on all 4 tires. Is this true???

Same question...I've been running 32 in back and 35 in front as recommended, but wondering if it should be higher with my Sumitomos.

I run whats in the door panel. Proper tire presure is determined by the wieght your car has pushing down on the tires. The tires have to push "up" on your car and the PSI determines how hard, which also effects the contact patch of the tires. Too little presure and done wear the center of your tread, too much and done wear the outsides. Different tires are slightly different, but use the numbers in the door jam as a starting point. If the center is wearing too much decrease presure slightly, if its wearing too little increase presure slightly.

I have 30 all the way around. I heard people lower their pessure when racing. What would the right pessure if I wanted to run my car.

You can lower the presure, but your probably going to have less traction than if you just keep it at the recommended levels. Lower the presure in your tires only gives you more traction with drag slicks or street slicks, or if you are offroading.

Well, I changed my tire pressures back to the factory recommendations. :)

Help! My driver door panel only list car weight: Front around 2650 lbs/1200 kg, rear 2150 lbs/ 980 kg. And I checked all other doors, no more panels.

What tire pressure I should use? My front tire is max to 44 PSI, and rear max to 35 PSI.

If you have a 3000GT, the base and the SL are the same I think: 32 PSI front and 29 PSI back. If you have a VR4, I think the factory recommendations are 35 PSI in the front and 32 PSI in the back. But I checked your profile and you listed a 1997 Ford Taurus as your car so if that's the case then your tire pressures are probably going to be entirely different. People on the Ford - Taurus forum should be able to help you with the right tire pressure for your car.
